Title: A Chair Apart

Summary: A couple gets into a really stupid argument, just for the sake of arguing.

--

Jasmine and Adam walked into the cafeteria holding hands and made their way over to their usual table. One of Adam’s friends, Jackson, was already sitting there and looked up and waved as he saw them coming, before hunching back over whatever homework he was doing. Adam sat right next to his friend, said a quick greeting, and then turned to finish the conversation with his girlfriend.

“Hey Jas—why are you sitting all the way over there?” Adam asked when he noticed his girlfriend had skipped over the empty chair beside him and settled on the next one.

Jasmine looked at her boyfriend with disgust and pulled out the overlooked chair to show Adam the filthy mark she had noticed on it.

“Did you not see this? It looks like dirty gum.”

Adam inspected the chair, yeah; there was something black and sticky looking on it. He turned back to her.

“It’s probably just discoloration.”

Jasmine looked at him like he was a total idiot

“Well I don’t want to sit in ‘discoloration’.”

Adam stared. Jasmine stared right back at him, her eyebrow raised.

“So you’re just gonna sit over there?”

“Yeah, why not?”

“Because it’s weird, we’re a couple and we should sit together. Not a whole chair apart.”

Jasmine rolled her eyes and then fixed them on Adam.

“Why are you being such a sissy about this?”

“A sissy? Who’s the one acting all stuck-up thinking she can’t sit on a perfectly good chair?”

“There’s stuff on it!”

“Get over it!”

Adam yelled as Jasmine’s jaw dropped and her whole face twisted in anger. She took a big breath and stuck her pointer finger in the air, ready to launch into a tirade. However, her momentum got messed up.

“Uh, hello?!” Jackson blurted out, trying to stop the couple from arguing so he could finish his physics homework, “Why don’t you guys just switch one of the chairs with that one?”

The feuding couple looked at the third member of their party. Jackson just sat back, looking annoyed with the two ‘lovebirds’.

“Shut up!” Jasmine snapped as Adam rounded on his friend also.

“That’s not even the point!”

And went right back to arguing with each other. Jackson stared in shock for a bit, then slowly turned back to doing his assignment, not even looking up as Jasmine and Adam stared to argue about whether or not Adam’s outfit matched.
