There is warmth in the velvet flavour,
and consistent on my skin;
the heat of a harsh summer sky
sweetened with chocolate sugar,
then a taste of salt, a tang from the ocean air.
We stickily watch the sea,
endless waves breaking like our slow chewing smiles.
There’s perfect blue there, and here,
both of them deep and enrapturing, merciless.
I can swim in one, but will always drown in the other,
never forgetting fudge, and the beach, and you.
