Forbidden Love (again lol)

Reis Yamatono leaned his back against the wall as he glanced at his wristwatch. There were still some minutes left before the promised time, so he still had some time to take a small rest. He had woke up late today, even though he knew he had an appointment with someone, so he hurriedly ate his breakfast and prepared himself to hang out. He even rushed to this place right away.

Well, he can’t risk being late today, because he has promised to Yurrei to help her do some weekly shopping. Yes. He’s going to go shopping with Yurrei Futabaki—that acclaimed little sister, which used to be his nemesis. This is the first time they will go shopping together as brother and sister, and Reis wanted it to be a good experience. He wanted to be a good big brother.

…Not really.

Who knows? That brunette has a special intention, actually. So, when the silverette asked him if he could help her to do some shopping today, he actually very happy. Not that sibling-bond-like happiness, but—

“Aniki!”

Reis lifted his head and saw Yurrei ran to his way. He smiled nervously. That girl looks cute in her casual outfit: the Lolita-style dress with frilly ribbons and laces. She looks like going to a cosplay contest, but that’s how she is, so he guessed it is okay.

“I’m sorry I’m late. I’m the one who asked you to help me, yet I made you wait…I’m so sorry!” she said apologetically as she huffed, exhausted after running too quickly.

“It’s alright. I came here too early,” Reis replied gently.

“Really? You didn’t wait for me too long, did you?”

“No, really. I just came, anyway.”

“That’s good, then,” Yurrei smiled cutely.

That one smile took Reis off guard. She was too lovely, and when she acted all nice like that, she’s just being too adorable that the brunette hardly could control his hormones. Oh how he wished that they weren’t actually siblings, so he could be honest and true to his feelings and go straight up to tell her what he had in mind.

“So, Aniki…are you ready to start shopping?” Yurrei queried, genuine smile plastered on her lips and that made the big brother blushed.

“Sure. Where do we start?” Reis said, managed to act as if everything is normal, somehow.

The silverette grinned wider and grabbed the brunette’s hand, which surprised him, and dragged him to follow her. She brought him to several shops in Fukuoka Shopping Street, like the bookstore, clothes shop, grocery, and etcetera. After completing the shopping list, they took some time to play at the game center or do window-shopping. It was then when Yurrei stopped near an accessory shop and gazed at one cute hair band displayed on a mannequin.

Reis forced to stop as well and watched her as she look longingly at the hair band. He smiled and asked her, “Do you want that?”

“What? Oh!” She blushed slightly. “N-no! I’m fine. I just think it looks cute, that’s all.”

“I know. And I’m sure you’ll look cute if you wear that too.”

“N-no! It is fine, I don’t want to wear it anytime soon, and beside we shouldn’t waste more time here. Let’s go home for now,” Yurrei concluded, grabbed Reis’ hand once again and pulled him out of the shopping street. However then, the brother couldn’t tear his eyes off that hair band from the accessory shop.

Before they returned to their respective dorms, they decided to stop at the Town’s Park. They wished to spend some more time together, and beside, they felt rather exhausted after walking around the streets and carried heavy bags with them. Yurrei sat down on a bench while Reis put down their bags on the side.

“I’ll go buy some ice cream for us,” the brunette inquired.

“Yes, thank you,” Yurrei smiled.

Reis glanced over his shoulder as he walked away. Yurrei didn’t seem to notice that he had walked off the park. That’s good. Now he has to hurry before she noticed that he had disappeared.

Meanwhile Yurrei was waiting patiently on the bench, a schoolboy passed by the park. He caught glimpse of the silverette’s sparkling hair and quickly noticed her lone presence near the fountain. A sudden, naughty idea popped up in his head. He slowly approached her in slow steps from behind. He was about to shout to surprise her, when…

“Is that you, Kouyou?”

Kouyou Fuuchoin gasped in surprise when he was being found out, despite the fact that Yurrei didn’t even turn her head to see who was coming behind her. The eye-glassed guy chuckled nervously as he showed up before her.

“How did you find out that it was me?” he asked with a sheepish smile.

The silverette sighed. “I knew you all to well to recognize your presence’s aura,” she explained shortly. “Never mind that. What are you doing here?”

“Nothing. I just pass by when I saw you sit down here alone. What are you doing here then?”

Yurrei pointed at the shopping bags placed near the bench, and Kouyou quickly understand what she meant. “Shopping, huh? You sure are strong, walking around carrying lot of stuffs.”

“I didn’t carry them all by myself. Aniki helped me.”

“Aniki…you mean, Reis? I didn’t see him anywhere nearby.”

“He was off to buy some ice creams for both of us, though…” the red-eyed girl folded her arms in front of her, started feeling rather annoyed, “…I have to admit that he took his time to buy cheap ice creams…”

The black haired heir chuckled softly. “Well, maybe he just wants to buy your favorite ice cream and having a hard time to choose which brand that you will love.”

“I don’t really need all those privileges…”

Kouyou chuckled to hear the naïve response. They then engaged in a long conversation about many trivia stuff that they didn’t realize that Reis had returned. A small shopping bag hung lightly around his arm, while both his hands carried ice creams—chocolate-flavored one for himself, while the strawberry one for Yurrei. The brunette stood from afar, watching as his little sister talked to her fiancé.

There was a mixed feeling in his heart. He felt anxiety and jealousy at the same time. Why he have to feel jealous to see Yurrei talking to Kouyou? They were engaged, it was normal. Though it was only for ‘political’ matter between the Futabaki Clan and Fuuchoin Clan, they were close in brother-and-sister terms. The silverette had declared that she only cared for him as a big brother of some sorts, so he shouldn’t worry too much.

Then why?

It’s simple, really.

It’s because Reis actually loved Yurrei, not as a sister, but as a girl.

He wouldn’t dare saying that aloud to anyone, though. Beside, Yurrei didn’t realize his feelings to her at all and they were real siblings. For now, he just wanted to stay as a caring big brother for her, as he supposed to be.

But he couldn’t just stay quiet seeing how close they are to each other, so he cleared his throat, finally got the attentions of the two teens. “I’m back,” he stated monotone.

“Took you long en—hey, is the strawberry one for me?” Yurrei’s red eyes sparkled with hope.

Reis blushed slightly and nodded, handed over the strawberry-flavored one to the silverette. The girl took it gratefully and started licking the cold cream all over like a spoiled child. The brunette smiled, admired her cuteness. Kouyou, sensing that he shouldn’t stay any longer, got up from the bench.

“I think I’ll go back to the dorm now,” the black haired schoolboy said. “Can I visit your place later?”

“Sure, but don’t count on it,” Yurrei replied.

Kouyou chuckled and inclined his head slightly to show his respect at Reis before leaving the park. The big brother seated himself next to the naïve girl and started enjoying his ice cream. Both stayed silent for a while, enjoying respective treats casually before Yurrei brought up a question.

“Aniki, where were you going just now? I’m sure you’re not taking your sweet time only to pick out ice creams, are you?”

“Er…well…I just lost my way returning, that’s all…” Reis grinned sheepishly, definitely trying to lie and avoid the question. “By the way, when did Kouyou came? What were you talking about back when I was gone buying the ice creams?”

“Hm? Not much, just about when I’m going to visit him again, and about the conditions in the Shadows-users group…I feel bad to leave them, but…I want to stay with you.”

Reis was startled. It wasn't because the reply, but because Yurrei’s reactions. There was tinge of pink color on her cheeks. For some reason, he believed it wasn’t because she was embarrassed to say such ambiguous words, but because she felt the same way as he did. Well, he didn’t really care why the silverette reacted like that, but he felt his mood lifted and he knew he could be more honest…a little.

“Err…Yurrei,” he gave her the small bag, which he hid up until now. “It’s for you.”

The Lolita girl raised an eyebrow upon receiving the small gift. However, as she opened the gift, a bright smile bloomed on her lips. She wanted the cute hair band when they were shopping just now. Wait; is that mean he was gone for quite a long time to buy this for her…?

“Aniki…” she looked up to him with those solemn eyes, causing the elder brother to blush again. She then glomped him fully, chimed, “Oh thank you, thank you, thank you so much! I’m gonna treasure it!”

The brunette’s face turned red, even redder than his little sister’s eyes. He returned the hug, wrapping one hand behind her back while his other hand stroke her silky silver hair.

He maybe just a plain, kind big brother for her, but he wouldn’t think less about her and will stay loving her as a girl.

…Forever.
