Falling Leaves and Falling Soldiers

--

A heart left by a soldier, fallen red, its time is nigh,

It waits to shake yet free, finding this in death to die,

Falling leaves and falling soldiers, both red in misery,

Both leaving life behind, to fall in summary.

--

Like red, a field of poppies, like gold, a heated sky,

These men, these leaves, these hearts; they fight, they fall, they die.

Cycled in our minds, next count they’ll come again,

Fall is everlasting, just as War is now for men.
