Again … Silence, seeming to laugh at the lover piercing the brightest of light with merciless shadows. The stars cry over the desolate figures, smothering me as they veer closer with bared teeth. The essence of the moon seemed almost nonexistent, hidden by the clouds that threatened to break with the sound of gunfire. My instincts told me to run but my body wouldn't move, frozen in an endless battle of emotions. As one of the shadows exposed itself into the dim light my body panicked and the next thing I knew, I was running, with wind and branches cuff against my cheeks. Fearing, yet loving the unconditional adrenaline that surged through my wavering useless body, burning away at my loneliness with his sinful touch. He did this to me, but this is a mere illusion to ease my uncomprehending mind, far too distant to fill the gap that he made. My long, curly brown hair that was draped over my shoulders now was flailing around behind me. My bands secured at my forehead from sweating in the heat and from the pounding chase that made my heart drop deep into my chest. I frequently winced at the immense pain in the bottom of my foot from running bare footed in the forest. I keep running, just running but never seeming to get anywhere, as if I am running in place and everything around me looking the same. I couldn’t let them get me, couldn’t let them get this child, my child that lay dormant inside my body. I have been through so much so how can I just give up and let them take the life of my unborn child? It couldn’t happen; it wouldn’t happen. My baby, my unborn son just as she foretold, but it was his child as well, his new beginning and the end of the life he once knew.

My blue eyes frantically searching for an exit saw nothing but the familiar yet unfamiliar surroundings. As I whipped my head around my eyes settled on a figure, not like those that were following me, but a man. Darkness pawned over his broad body as if sheltering a weak child. It was easy to see that he has an uncanny essence about him that made me shutter. His eyes poured into my equally passionate ones, diving so far that it was as if he has stripped me to emotion. He let out a hand to far for me to reach but I reach out not before the darkness took me … screaming.

Shouting out I whipped upright cradling my head in my hands sweating. My hair was in total disarray from tossing and turning all night. I looked around to see everything in place. Side table, desk, computer, window, everything in my dorm was the same. Easing my frantic pulse and heavy breathing I brushed my dark hair out of my face and took a deep breath. Then I remembered and unknowingly found myself with my hands on my stomach. I had never been pregnant, how could I when I was still a virgin? I shook off the uneasy feeling I still had in the pit of my stomach and stood up from the twin sized bed. The dream felt so real, I could feel those vicious fangs ripping apart my body. I quivered at the thought of it but stumbled over to my desk where my cell phone had been charging. With shaking hands I picked up the blue LG Xeon and held the off button. As the screen lit up with the logo of AT&T I took another deep breath then turned in the swivel chair to look at the clock; 3:00am exactly. I needed to get some sleep before school and then work after that. Ms. Pontes had called in sick last night and she requested me to take her place after my classes. Even though I was kind of afraid to say it, tonight at 3:25pm I will be 18 years old. Since my grade point averages were always high I was able to skip a year and move up but I was always the youngest in my classes, but now that I am in college and a second year I am able to do much more. And although it’s hard being a year apart of my friends I still have fun with them during the times that I’m not studying or working with Ms. Pontes at the hospital.

When my screensaver showed on my phone a note popped up and my phone vibrated. I had a text from someone. I pressed accept and it was from a phone number I didn’t know but the text was interesting, and frightening at the same time.
