“Angel, you’re going to break your cell phone in two if you don’t stop squeezing it so hard.” Mason chided, laughing as his best friend glared at him.
“You would too if you were in my situation.” She snapped, but her eyes were glowing in a way that Mason had never come across before.
Mason nodded and patted her on the shoulder, happy for his friend.
“I know, Angel. I can’t even imagine how nervous you must be.”
Angel stopped her frantic movements and turned to look at him.
“Is it that obvious?” She whispered, biting her lip.
Mason smiled at her.
“The only reason I can tell is because whenever you’re nervous you take it out on the cell phone. Sheesh, if I didn’t know you any better, I’d think you hated the thing.” He teased, with a wink.
His response was a smack on the arm from his sister.
“Can it, small stuff. Ignore him Angel.” Maria said with a roll of her eyes. “He’s just being a typical boy.”
Angel laughed as Mason pouted at his older sister, and moved to stand on the other side of Angel.
“I know Maria, and besides, it’s just fun.”
Angel started squeezing the phone again and Mason and Maria exchanged a look between them.
“Are you excited?” Mason ventured to ask.
“Am I? How couldn’t I be?!?!” She cried, hopping up and down a few times.
The three of them laughed and Angel grinned from ear to ear as she remembered that one important phone call that had led them to this moment.
________Flashback________
“ANGEL!”
Angel laughed and stepped forward to hug her friend tightly.
“Hey Maria! It’s great to see you! Safe flight?”
“Boring and there was a guy chewing gum behind me the whole time, but yes, safe. I’ve missed you!”
Maria stepped back and took both of her hands.
“How are things at home?” She asked, and Angel saw the same worried expression on Maria’s face that she saw on Mason’s all the time.
“They’re handled. I’ll give you the details on the way back.” She promised with a smile.
“Ahem.” Said an annoyed voice from just behind Angel.
The two of them turned to see an annoyed, but amused Mason standing there watching the scene in front of him.
“Hey bro!”
Maria released Angel to hug her younger brother.
“Hey sis. Glad to hear that I haven’t been completely forgotten about.” Mason teased, winking over at Angel.
Maria rolled her eyes and slapped her brother on the back of the head.
“You haven’t changed a bit.” She grumbled, picking up her back pack, from where she had dropped it to hug Angel. “Come on, let’s get home. I need to change my clothes.”
“Shotgun!” Angel cried as they left the airport, smirking as Mason glared playfully at her.
“Girls…” He muttered.

“Got your phone, Angel?” Maria asked, as she buckled her seatbelt.
“Yeah…” Angel said, unsure of why Maria was asking.
“Good.” Maria said with a grin.
“Why?” Angel asked wearily.
“I have a feeling you’re going to be getting an important phone call.” Maria hinted, pulling the car out of the driveway of the Group home that Angel was staying at.
Angel’s brow furrowed together and she bit her lip in sudden worry.
“It’s a good one, Angel.” Maria informed her. “Don’t worry.”
Angel nodded, but she wasn’t entirely convinced.
“Now let’s go get some shopping done!”
Angel grinned and clapped her hands together.
“Yes!”
“No!” cried a voice from the back.
“Shut up, Mason!” Maria yelled, glaring at her brother.
“Hey! The only reason that I’m going is because you need me to carry your shopping bags.”
“Awww come on, Mason, you can be a little more kind than that can’t you? If you at least pretend to care than I’ll carry my own shopping bags.” Angel teased.
Mason rolled his eyes but smiled.
“Fine.” He grumbled, and turned on his iPod.
Angel grinned at Maria and the two of them began talking about what dresses they were going to buy.
Angels and Masons graduation was coming up in a few weeks and today the three of them (Mason dreading it) were gone shopping for what they were going to wear.
Since arriving in the Group Home, Angel had managed to get a job at a small convenience store that was on the same street as the Home. She worked every weekend and was attempting to save up some money to pay back Mason and Maria. (not that they knew.) She had requested this weekend off and now she allowed herself a small sum of money to be able to spend on a dress for herself.
They pulled into the mall and within a few minutes into the shopping both girls had an armful of dresses each to try on. Mason waited, still listening to his music, and when each girl came out he gave them a vague opinion on the dresses. Basically, the two girls were on their own as far as he was concerned.
Maria quickly found the dress she wanted and Angel had a few options when they found the perfect one.
Maria shoved Angel into the changing room with the dress and Angel pulled it on quickly, praying that it would look as good on her as it did on the rack. She came out of the dressing room and bit her lip as Mason and Maria looked at her.
Angel twirled in a circle and then began to play with a lock of her hair as she waited for their reactions.
“Angel, that looks good.” Mason said, and coming from Mason, that was as of a compliment as she was going to get.
“We’re done here, Angel, you are buying that dress.” Maria confirmed. “It looks amazing, and it’s the same colour as your highlights in your hair!”
“Hey it is too!” Mason chirped, grinning. “It looks great, Angel. Get it.”
Angel smiled at the two of them and turned to look in the full length mirror. The dress was a light blue – the same as her highlights- and it was floor length. The dress was held on her shoulders by two thin straps and flowed tightly until her waist, where it the fanned out to her feet, the material mixed with chiffon of the same shade. Angel had to admit that it looked good on her.
“I like it too.” She whispered.
Before anyone could say anything else, Angel heard her ringtone go off on her cell phone, and she held out her hands as Maria threw the phone at her from where it sat in her purse on the chair beside Mason.
“Hello?” she asked, pushing her hair behind her ears.
“Hey Angie, it’s been a long time, hasn’t it?”
Angel’s jaw dropped and her heart skipped a few beats, as the voice matched a fuzzy image in her head. She looked over at Maria and Mason with pure shock and saw them smiling at her, knowing what was going on. They had planned it.
Unable to comprehend it all just now, for a few seconds, all Angel could do was open and close her mouth, struggling to believe that it was true, that it was real.
“I-I...Addy?” She breathed. “Is that you?”
“It is indeed.” He replied, his voice cracking and popping, as the connection between them was bad.
Angel felt tears gather in her eyes and she pressed the phone tighter to her ear.
“Where are you?” she got out. “We’ve been so worried, I-I…”
She trailed off, her mind whirling.
“It’s okay, Angel. I’m coming home and we’ll talk properly then, I promise. I’m safe, but I have to go. I love you Angie, and I’ll see you in a few days.”
Angel managed to squeak a quick ‘bye’ before the connection died and then stared at her two friends in disbelief.
Maria grinned and hugged the other girl tightly. Mason patted her head and grinned widely at her.
“You didn’t think I’d wait until after we graduated did you? Maria is the one who planned it?”
“Planned what?” Angel got out, her voice thick with tears of joy. “Tell me everything!”
________End Of Flashback________
Maria grinned widely at her reaction and then the three of them froze momentarily as the bus pulled into the bus stop. The people around them perked up and as the doors opened they went to greet their loved ones, a happy chatter filling the area.
Angel scanned through the crowd and squeezed the phone so hard that her fingers went white with the effort.
“I don’t see him…” She murmured, her voice a little panicked. “Where is he?”
“Calm, Angel, he’s here’s somewhere.” Mason reminded her, the three of them looking intently around them.
Angel turned around and began to scan behind them, where people were going as there was no room in the immediate area and bit her lip, as she was unable to locate her brother.
“Angel, look.”
Mason tapped her shoulder and Angel whipped around to see where he was pointing.
Adam stood a few meters away, grinning widely at Angel, and for a second all she could do was stand there and stare.
He’s back. He’s really back!! Her thoughts screamed.
Then she snapped out of her trance and closed the space between them in a large stride, wrapping her arms around his waist and hugging him as hard as she possibly could.
Adam chuckled and hugged her back just as hard and for a moment everything around them seemed to disappear as Angel realized that from now on she really did have someone besides Mason and Maria. She had her brother.
And Angel began to cry.
