A/N: Luci's prompt #1 from the Sweet-Revolution forums: Renaissance Faire. Includes a few my lovely boys from Silent Song.
Warnings: Fluff, slash, love triangles, and Carmen-torture. :)
Side-Note: For anyone who has actually read Silent Song, this isn't SS canon. Just mentioning this so no one's confused. 8D If you haven't read it, you totally should. :p
Renaissance Romance
I couldn’t believe they were fighting again.
...Well, okay, they were always fighting, so that I could believe. But I couldn’t believe they were fighting here, of all places, and in front of so many people. Didn’t they have any sense of humility?
“Lord DeAngelo, I challenge thou to a duel for the honor of thy fair charge, Carmen!” I bit my lower lip hard, fighting back my irritation. Well, that answered my question.
We were, if you could not guess from the odd speech, at a renaissance faire. I, being my usual idiotic self, asked Kyle if he wanted to join Edward and me for the trip here. Mistake number one.
They had began bickering even before we got in the car — my second mistake was to ask Kyle to just ride with us. It is not fun having to spend two hours in a small car with grown men who can’t stop fighting. Just remembering it makes me cringe...
But the day had actually gone well. We had a lot of fun and I made sure to take loads of pictures of the three of us in our flamboyant costumes — I went as a young prince in a tunic, leggings, and feathery hat; Kyle and Edward both went as my guardian knights, sans armor and weaponry. My third mistake was not realizing that their choices in costumes prophesied bad things for the future.
But really, everything had been going so well until the king’s crier announced the faire’s main event: a knight’s duel.
“Can we have two volunteers to face off in a visual display of valor and might?” I had a bad feeling even before Edward calmly stood up to accept the armor, and Kyle began hopping in his seat shouting, “Ooh, me! Me! Pick me!”
My fourth mistake was not trying hard enough to make them back off from one another.
“I accept thy challenge, foolhardy Lord Masters. May the best man win mine Carmen’s hand!” I really wanted to sink into the floor and die, right at that moment. I did my best imitation of an ostrich, instead, burying my face into one of the the fliers passed out by the crier. Could this day get any worse?
“Those two men sure are handsome, huh?” a girl my age asked from beside me. I looked up from the flier to her face, then over to Edward and Kyle in the arena. With the sun shining down on their glittering armored forms, I supposed she was right: they were both quite handsome. The girl smiled and false-swooned. “I’d die a happy gal if two sexy men like that could fight for my honor... This Carmen is so lucky.”
I looked at her again, feeling a blush rise up on my face, and felt a small smile twist my lips. Yeah, I was pretty lucky, wasn’t I?
