Prologue

Peering out into the shadowy mountains, through his bedroom window, the brooding figure took another sip of blood. Mordecai sighed while savoring the blood of his late night companion. 'This is a better vessel indeed,' he thought, considering the way he mutilated her body. A wine glass was perfect for his after meal drink. Thick lips slowly parted to indulge in another lick of the warm crimson liquid that spilled just a bit on the side of his glass. Dark violet eyes rolled back into their sockets, while he basked in his strength replenishing. A perturbed sigh from a detached individual, he gazed upon the reports he had to do for the meeting in the morning, and the other nonsense that plagued him. Grimacing at the notion he was to be wed soon he undressed and began his shower.

Marriage. Why did he have to be the one chosen, and not one of his twin brothers? The scolding hot water saturated his elbow length white thick locks. His smoldering indigo eyes now snug behind eyelids, relaxing as tension was suppressed by the rat-ta-tat of water on marble. The pounding headache gave no mercy to him, as he sensed his father was now arriving to the base of the mountain, making his ascension to his home rather lethargically.

'What in hell is that?'

The awful odor attacked his sensitive nose. Mordecai found himself hunting through his thoughts for the source of such a stinch. He switched off the water stepping out of his bathroom with only a burgundy towel to skirt his muscular hips. His nose led him throughout the mansion and to the front door to which he pulled open apprehensively and beheld the most horrible sight.

'Please love her with all your heart and may God have mercy on our lost souls.'

He was stupefied with the gurgling bundle peering back at him with her crystal blue eyes. Pudgy fingers grasped the ends of the pale yellow blanket. She did not cry when he lifted her up to glare at her but only fidgeted angrily due to the load within her diapers. Mordecai grimaced as his fangs grew.

'Well guess I have an after dinner morsel before father comes.'

The baby began to cry out as he drew her close to him. Silence gripped the frosty air as birds flew from their resting place in the trees, after the snapping and crushing of bone mixed with the slurping of liquid. Blood ran down his mouth as he was glad to satisfy his craving for flesh and young blood.
