Shadow of The Knight

Kai Qiu

Part I: Chapter I

Shadow had long black hair that was tied into a pony tail on the back of his head, innocent gray eyes (which weren't actually innocent...at all), and a slender build only girls (...and I) were jealous of. His skin was oddly pale (he did go outside – a lot), and he wore a white button up shirt, a black vest with chains and leather pants that clung to his skin. For a 16 year old he looked to be at least 18, and for an only child, he didn't seem to be socially awkward.

Or maybe he was.

The fact that no one in the town had ever heard him speak made him mysterious, but the fact that every now and then he would disappear for weeks at a time made him striking.

I had always wondered what his voice sounded like, whether it was high or low or smooth or rough. I always guessed it would be smooth and perfectly pitched because that's what his body looked like it would produce, but after spending more time looking at him I noticed he didn't have any fat on his body. At all. It was covered entirely in muscle and when he spoke to me for the first time, I realized my initial guess at his voice couldn't have been more wrong.

The first word he ever said to me was, “follow”. And when he spoke I was startled. You see, I was sitting at the cafe, mocha in one hand, a good romance novel in the other when he entered the store. All eyes looked at him – all eyes except mine, and they followed him as he entered the door and walked over to me. I – content in the world of love, passion, and predictable cliche's – did not notice that he had entered until his stood right above me, casting a shadow over the pages in my book. He bent over so his mouth was right next to my ear, his warm breath making the hairs on the back of my neck tingle. He whispered the one word slowly, carefully enunciating every syllable, making sure I got the point. I did. My knees felt weak because of his oddly erotic voice, and if it weren't for the fact that I was already sitting down – I would have fallen.

When he stood up straight, I allowed myself to breathe again, I glanced up at him, his impatient eyes carefully urging me on. “Fine.” I replied to him, shutting the book and saving my place. I downed the rest of my coffee and followed him out of the door, tossing my cup into the trash on my way out. “What's your name?” I asked him – wondering the answer not only for myself, but for the entire community. He simply shook his head and kept walking. “Oh, okay – I see how it is. Don't talk to me!” He sighed and turned the corner, he kept going until we could no longer see the main road, and then he stopped and turned to me.

“Mathias?” He asked me, his eyes scanning my body.

“Yes?” I replied, both anxious and aroused.

“You need to press your body next to mine like an awkward hug from behind, and we need to move in unison. Breathe in unison. Mathias, we need to be as one. I'll explain why later, but right now – I need you.”

I gulped. The puppy-dog eyes. Oh shit – he's got the greatest puppy-dog eyes I've ever seen, and I'm pretty sure he wasn't even trying. “Fine.” I replied simply. He turned around, and I walked up to him pressing my body up against his back. He walked to a doorway and casually opened it up, my arms still clinging tightly to his waist and (embarrassingly enough) my length becoming semi-erect. He stifled a nervous giggle, then shut up and when it became fully erect (and he could feel it pressing against his ass) he jumped – but only ever so slightly that only I would have known. We kept walking, and after a moment or two we came upon a large, vibrant source of light, and inside was an object – a boot?

“Reach out your hand with mine so we can touch it at the same time.” My arm and his connected, and we reached out for the glowing boot – which was also suspended in midair. The second our fingers touched it, it's light faded and it immediately fell to the ground. “Damn,” he muttered.

“What?” I asked him, still clinging onto him for dear life.

“Nothing, I'll take you home now.” He replied, picking up the boot and stuffing it into a loose floor board.

“What!?” I replied, he was just going to show me this...this magic and then leave? Ha – no.

“Yes, that's exactly what I expect of you.” he replied, heading towards the door. He totally read my mind – ooh creepy. I shuddered, “and yes, I just did read your mind.”

“Out of my head, out out!” I replied, “And tell me what's going on!”

“First of all, no, second of all, no, and third of all, you got a boner.” He snickered, “And, as nice as our little time together has been, it really is time for you to forget me, I mean – just because I can read your mind, doesn't mean that's the only I thing I can do with it. When I wave my hand over your face, you will forget this past hour.”

“It's been an hour!?” It felt much shorted then that.

“Oh, um – never mind the odd time difference. Now say goodnight to Shadow.”

Suddenly my brain wasn't controlling my mouth anymore, and I said, “Goodnight Shadow.” I saw him wave his hand over my face, and everything went black.
