Chapter Fifty-Six: Persuasion Games
The sharp sound of heels clicking down the hall alerted the blond of the woman's presence. Still, he didn't turn to look at who it was. He was tired after a very long day and not very happy about having had to stay after school for the usual Student Council meeting. It was particularly bad due to the way his mind kept going back to what had happened during lunch. He honestly hadn't meant to cause any problems, but it was clear he had and he still felt guilty. Disturbingly though, he couldn't help but notice the slight sense of satisfaction at the face Saito-sensei had after seeing him kiss Mira. He had to struggle to push that away.
The whole thing just made him wonder if he would really be able to push aside his feelings for Mira. Obviously, he still felt some resentment for the older man she was currently dating, but how much there was he did not know. Just then, the sound of the woman behind him grew louder as she got closer and he had to stop when he heard his name being called. He turned and was met with Beaumont-sensei. Immediately, he put on the brightest smile he could muster.
"Hello, Beaumont-sensei. How can I help you?"
"Hello, Kobayashi-kun. I was hoping we could talk in my classroom." She said in a calm voice.
Kaito was hesitant to go, but there wasn't much he could do and so he followed her to her classroom. It wasn't far off and soon he found himself standing in front of the teacher who smiled in a way that made him uneasy.
"So, what did you want to talk about, Beaumont-sensei?" He asked.
The teacher looked at him for a moment with a wide smile before responding.
"I heard you and Miyake-san are going out."
That was unexpected. It certainly caught Kaito off guard, but her composed himself quickly.
"Well, yes we are." He answered simply.
Jenell's smile widened at seeing the student falter for a moment.
"That's interesting, I hope Saito-sensei doesn't mind."
Kaito almost had a heart attack when he heard that. He looked over at Jenell and frowned at the look of satisfaction on the woman's face. Still, he made an effort to look genuinely confused.
"Why would he mind?" He asked with a small laugh that came out sounding more nervous than he would have liked.
Beaumont only stood there, smiling.
"I guess I should get straight to the point." She sighed.
"I know about Saito-sensei's relationship with Miyake."
Her dislike for the girl was clear as she almost spat out her name.
"And I know you've been pretending to go out with her."
Kaito shook himself out of his shock and blinked confusedly.
"I don't know what you're talking about, Beaumont-sensei. There's nothing going on between Mira-chan and Saito-sensei."
Jenell only laughed lightly at the boy's efforts to help his friend. It was precisely those strong feelings he held for the girl that would help her get what she wanted. Everything really was going perfectly. Now, all she had to do was get Kaito to tell her everything.
"Is that so? That's interesting, considering how much time they spend together, not to mention, Saito-sensei didn't really look happy at lunch time." She said with a sly look.
Kaito frowned and stood there, not knowing what to say. He was afraid that anything he said would just make matters worse. The woman laughed and walked closer to him.
"It's fine if you tell me since I already know." She said with a smile.
"But you know, it was rather noble of you to push your feelings aside and help her, even knowing you would lose her."
The boy froze and could say nothing to that. Jenell only smiled as she walked around him and sat behind her desk.
"I don't know what you're talking about." He said quietly, looking away.
"You don't have to pretend, I can see you have feelings for her. I just wonder how long you can keep pretending that it doesn't bother you to see her with someone else."
She could tell she was starting to get to the boy.
"It's fine, as long as Mira-chan is happy." He said with fake cheer.
"But don't you think she would be happier with someone who has loved her for so long instead of a few months? Don't you think she would be better off with you?"
There was silence in the room for a moment. Kaito really was struggling to keep his composure now, Jenell could tell. She stood up and walked over to the boy, placing her hand on his shoulder.
"You don't have to give her up you know? I can help you, but you have to help me in return." She said kindly.
She could only smile at the look in the boy's eyes. Things really were going well for her.

Bonus Story: Catsitter
Hadwin could only close his eyes and count to ten as the sounds of crashing beakers and scratching of random furniture assaulted his ears. He had to wonder what he had done to make God forsake him. His students only watched, amazed at the unusual amount of self control the blond was displaying. With a sigh he opened his eyes and continued to write on the board. Another loud crashing sound was heard and this time, even his students jumped. Several kids wondered if that was the day their teacher would have a stroke. The poor teacher could only wonder why he always ended up with the short end of the stick whenever Kairos decided to do something crazy and/or, but not limited to stupid.
It had all started that morning while they were in the art teacher's room. He, being the good and sadistic friend he was, had decided to pay his friend a visit to make sure his classroom wasn't a dump and if it was, as was the case, make him clean it. Unfortunately, Kane walked in at that moment with his bag even though he had gotten there about half an hour earlier. It was with horror, or in Kairo's case, delight, that the men watched as Kane pulled out a cat from the bag. It was only a kitten and Hadwin could only stand there and watch as Kairos snatched it from the other teacher.
Apparently, the cat belonged to Mira who had accidentally carried it to school in her bag. Kane, being the lazy bastard he was, at least to Hadwin's opinion, had decided to have Kairos look after it on the basis that 'he could play with Noir'. The science teacher had to wonder if he was the only one who saw the more than likely disastrous outcome that would result from that. Of course, his warnings went unheeded and Kairos left the new ball of fluff to 'play' with Noir. Said 'playing' included destroying other classrooms, namely Hadwin's.
Sadly, the teacher could do nothing to either cat. Why? Because if he so much as harmed the little bastard that had suddenly shown up and was currently following in the other cat's steps Kane would bludgeon him with a book. In Noir's case, the damn thing was too quick and smart to catch and so there really was nothing he could do. Three hours of pure hell later, Kairos finally showed up to claim the cats.
"There you are you two! I've been looking all over for you~!" He said, prancing into the remains of what was once a pristine room.
Oddly enough, there was no Hadwin in sight only his cat and Mao standing before him.
"Where's Hadwin-kun?" He asked, looking around.
As if it had understood him, which perhaps it had, Noir ran off towards the teacher's office. Kairos followed and could only stare as his friend sat behind his desk with a cigar in his mouth and a ragged look. His usually neat hair was messed up and stuck out in random places as if he had just woken up. Hes tie was undone and his shirt was scratched and had small stains on it. His face had a few scratches and dust and paper seemed to have rained down on him. He looked up blankly at his friend who stood in the doorway looking at him in awe.
"I hate cats." He muttered.
That was the day in which Hadwin had been the closest to weeping uncontrollably.
So, I was high on candy and coffee when I started this chapter which should have actually been part of the previous chapter so I managed to get it done.I am currently brain dead and can hardly type so I will leave you to fall unconscious on my bed. Such are the woes of students who take on too many extra classes...T-T...
