A pillowbook.

(Oh, God, another one.)

Yes, another one indeed. Just like the dozens of others on this site, the millions in this world.

Why?

Because I’m just like the millions of other people who write them.

Or am I?

(Who knows?)

--

Well, to start off with the bare essentials: I’m Nina. I’m a girl. I’m fifteen. I’m American.

I’m human.

I considered starting off with some kind of prose—a short story, maybe a poem, or maybe just some sort of semi-coherent babbling about myself. But then I thought, isn’t that what this whole collection is for? Why not start off with something different?

So instead, I’ll give you ten things about myself that I bet you never knew.

(Like you knew anything about me before this.)

--

-1-

I’m a cynic.
(Can you tell?)

-2-

I’m an optimist.
(Betcha didn’t see that coming.)

-3-

I’m a vegetarian. Pescetarian, I’ll admit (because I refuse to be one of those posers claiming to be a veggie). But that’s only temporary, and basically out of my control. I’m in Japan, you see, where not eating fish just about promises starvation. Or at least an extremely offended host family. No worries though, fishies, for I will no longer eat you starting August twenty-eighth. I plan to become a vegan when I turn eighteen, but who knows. I rarely keep promises to myself like that, and yet I never cease to surprise myself.

-4-

I’m a poser. (Aren’t we all?) If two people started talking about me, they’d wonder if they were discussing the same person. I can be talking to one person one way, then literally just turn around and talk to another and be completely different. It has its benefits and drawbacks. (Mostly the latter.) Maybe this is why I’m so drawn to writing. I get to be someone else without feeling guilty for once.

-5-

People always say I’m mature for my age. I couldn’t (dis)agree with them more. I think about things way too much, like what I’m going to do with my future and how every little thing will affect it. For just once I wish I could just pull myself off (like a suction cup, sluuuuuup) and enjoy being a kid, ‘cause God knows I won’t be a teenager forever.

Then again, I complain about the most stupid of things, think for myself when I should be thinking of others, wish for things I don’t need, depend too much on my parents, and cry when things aren’t going the way I want them to. Mature. Sure.

-6-

I’m an atheist. At times I wish I had a religion, believe me. I wish that I can have something tangible (irony much?) to hold on to, believe without a shred of doubt. But I don’t, and no amount of preaching will ever change that.

Wait, scratch that. I do believe in some things. They're called Kira, Zero, Techie Gods, the Banana King, and The Flying Spaghetti Monster. Yeah...

-7-

I’m a techie, or theatre technician if you prefer. For you (silly silly) people who don’t know what we are, we are those people dressed black running around like lunatics backstage draped in cords, or flying in the air due to that poorly weighted rope (dammit Jordan), or making those actors (WHO NEED TO PROJECT) actually hearable. Or (my specialty) making them visible with light. (“God said, ‘Let there be light.’ And there was light. And it was good.” Yup, that’s the only biblical quote I know, folks.)

Techies are where it’s at.

(Actors are just props with dialogue. We make the show.)

-8-

I’m in love, or at least least I think I am. I'm fifteen, so who knows.

-9-

I totally can’t think of anything to put for nine, but I wanted the dramatic effect of ten, sooo…

-10-

I’m me.

There we go :D

Welcome to the strange musings that are my mind.

(Don't worry. There's virtual pocky! And it's kiwi-flavored! =o)
