Sweet Codeine II
Out of the rehab,
Laughing at
you,
I snigger at how lost you look,
Without drugs on your
lips;
I leer at your need,
For more than two
teaspoons,
When a cough cannot be cured,
In a blink of an
eye;
How stupid you look,
When you’re overdosed,
You
see an illusion of bliss,
Heaven is yours.
And when the pills are shared,
Your
heaven rumbles,
I watch your tantrum,
And hold you tight;
Feeding on painkillers,
Side-effects
chewing inside,
Fearing the silence to part,
Yet so many
treatments you ignore;
Depending on one ecstasy,
Therapy
all forgotten,
May it be sweet on your tongue,
But shall it rot
your heart;
This is a note from a retired
addict:
God is your only saviour,
Else I walk out of the
rehab,
Still laughing at you.
