The Minefield
Beyond the boundaries of the city’s walls
Stand our enemies waiting for our fall
They’ve breached our borders but have yet to reach
The inner strengths of us all.
.
When we falter,
The enemy gains.
They can take over
When we lose our faith.
At times we forget where to put our strength,
And then we lie in a sorry mess,
Lost to our enemies’ success.
.
.
Our civilians are soldiers,
Fighting each day
For survival on the minefield of daily life.
With the streets as the battlefield
And their homes as their base,
On the strength of their hope they do fight.
.
.
Beyond the boundaries of what we hold dear,
Our enemies are advancing near.
They know the footholds but their hands lose their grasp.
When our faces turn upward,
Our victory rides fast.
.
When we gain ground,
The skies are alight.
When we take over,
They lose the fight.
Our strength lies not in manpower
Or the horse’s flanks.
But when in G-d we rest,
We will find success.
.
.
Our civilians are soldiers,
Fighting each day
For survival on the minefield of daily life.
With the streets as the battlefield
And their homes as their base,
On the strength of their hope they do fight.
.
.
And they’ll soon lay their weapons by the seabed
And soon the struggles will cease
They’ve pulled through the hard
And now it will seem easy
To break through the enemies’ siege
.
We faltered, we lost our grip.
We stumbled, we learned how to trip.
Oppressor’s persevered,
We began to fall,
Until we heeded a Higher Being’s call.
.
.
Our civilians are soldiers,
Fighting each day
For survival on the minefield of daily life.
With the streets as the battlefield
And their homes as their base,
On the strength of their hope they do fight.
