"Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides.” - St. Augustine
Daishiro blinked, stared, then blinked again; the names and numbers remained the same.
1: Uta Tonoya
2: Sanju Amayada
3: Hiyono Yuizaki (1)
4: Tomonai Kuzuriku
5: Daishiro Kiyoshi
Daishiro Almost melted on the floor from his good luck. He not only made it in the top 10 but the top 5! Other students crowded around the board to check their status. Asa suddenly slumped against him.
“I barely made it Daish! How’d you do?” he moaned, Daishiro slowly pointed at his number, Asa looked at it blankly.
“WHAAAAAT?” Asa suddenly came to life; Matsu poked his head through the crowd.
“Are you serious?” He asked in awe, Asa grabbed onto Daishiro’s shirt collar and began shaking him violently.
“Is this what you’re doing when I invite you to come over to parties? You’re off studying up in a loft while we’re watching movies imported from America? Slaving away at words while we kick the soccer ball around the house?!” Asa cried out, Daishiro gripped onto his friend’s wrists.
“What are you even talking about; you haven’t had a party since we were 10. And we practice soccer every day, what are you five? Do you need to have play dates every day?” Daishiro yelped back.
“How could you SAY such a thing?” Asa said clutching his own shirt with his free hand, as if he was trying to keep his heart under his skin, “Did we not spend time together every day? Did we not watch the sunset and vow to always be together?!”
“Stop using Manga references (2)!” Daishiro answered heatedly. Students, from his own class and other classes, were staring at the two of them. Daishiro heard a girl whisper to her friend asking if he, Daishiro, was gay. Asa suddenly flung him on the ground.
“I’m being serious Daish! How could you throw away our beautiful friendship for that?!” Daishiro slowly turned onto his knees and began to crawl through the growing crowd away from Asa. I hate it when he gets too excited… He thought to himself. He could still hear his friend when he got through the dense forest of legs, he sighed.
“Sounds like he’s starting to quothe Shakespeare.” Daishiro looked up to see Uta kneeling on the ground next to him. She was peering at him with her normal unreadable expression, but her mouth was turned up in a slight smirk.
“He’s just insane is all,” Daishiro answered before standing up. “What were you doing on the floor?” he asked briskly, Uta stood up and shrugged before walking away.
“Heeeey,” Daishiro moaned before jogging to catch up with her, “Did you see my score?” He asked excitedly, Now she’ll have to pay attention to me! Uta looked up at him with a raised eyebrow.
“No,” a piece of the ceiling fell on Daishiro’s head; Uta looked up at the hole in wonder.
“I made it to number 5,” Daishiro said while shaking pieces of plaster out of his hair. “What do you think about that?!” Uta stared at his expectant, bright smile before looking out the hall window.
“I’m amazed; who knew an idiot could get such a high number,”
“So are you proud of me,”
“No, I don’t really care,” Daishiro hesitated and stared at Uta as she continued to walk down the hall before letting his head hang in sadness.
“Uuuutaaaa you could be nicer to me…” He said while he jogged to catch up with her again.
“Hn,” she grunted. Daishiro glared down at her. But then an idea came to him and he grinned widely.
“Now that I have made my score to be almost as high as yours, you should do something for me,” He declared,
“What?”
“Now that I think of it, the schools annual half marathon is coming up!”
“Since when did we arrange a transaction?”
“Since your usually not running around and such, it would only be fair that you run in the race.”
“Pray tell, why on earth would I have to do anything for you when I didn’t make you do anything for your grades?”
“And of course because it’s on Saturday you’ll have to start training now so it will be just like me cramming for school,”
“Your really not listening to me are you,”
“But we should sign you up today so you’ll actually have a spot in the race!”
“Idiot,” Uta sighed while she walked as Daishiro continued to chatter about nothing in particular. Uta looked out the window, the sun was shining brightly, a few students were playing around outside waiting for a ride. The trees were beginning to deaden, leaves littered the ground. The trees were dancing as if there was wind playing with their long limbs. Uta paused to stare at a tree close to the window; its height made the wind thrust its branches around slightly more violently. A small bird was perched on one of the twigs when it was suddenly blown violently. It flapped its wings uselessly before beginning to fall. Uta took a step towards the window when Daishiro rushed past her and flung it open. His arms outstretched and caught the little feather ball in his hands.
“This one seems small…” he said sounding confused. Uta stared at him as he tried to get the bird to flap its wings and fly. He looked suddenly like another boy… his blonde spiked hair seemed to become chocolaty brown and shaggy. His Blue-green eyes melted into bright gold ones and his confused expression seemed more like that of a grin. The boy turned to Uta with a smile Uta remembered well.
“Uta?” Daishiro asked she shook her head before looking at Daishiro. He held the small bird out. “I need to go to Soccer practice, will you take car of this little guy,”
“What? I can’t take i…” Daishiro cut her off by setting the small, skitterish sparrow in her hands.
“Don’t worry about it!” He grinned, “Just take care of him until Saturday, and then you can give him to me after the race. And I can return your book,” Daishiro seemed to blush slightly, Uta blinked; she was still confused by Daishiro’s behavior since they went to the library. All she could remember was accidentally falling asleep.
“I haven’t even consented to going!” She called to Daishiro as he ran down the hall,
“I’ll sign you up so don’t worry about it,”
“Hey!” but by then he was gone, Uta sighed, “That punk idiot,” She looked down at the bird that had perched itself on her finger. Maybe it couldn’t fly because it was bred in some sort of captivity, it certainly didn’t seem to mind her.
“Well, I have no clubs so do you want to come home with me?” she asked it, the bird cocked its head but didn’t give her an answering chirp. “You haven’t grown your wings either, have you?” Uta said softly, this time, the bird chittered.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! I SLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACKED! I’m so sorry everyone. I’ll admit I wasn’t sure how to do this chapter so I sorta just did it, but the story’s finally moving I mean, she saw Daishiro as someone else. Doesn’t that make you curious? I can’t wait to write the next chapter, but I hope to get at least one review *big puppy dog eyes* jk jk. I won’t pressure you. I think this chapter was sort of short… but I’m not intirely sure.
Recognize the name spiral fans?
If you read the Fruits basket manga you’ll know who Asa is quoting and why Daishiro tells him not to quote manga.
Well I’ll write another chapter soon, I promise. Ttfn!
