You Killed Bambi!
I heard a gunshot and a high pitched squeal. Running over to the noise, I gasped. There lay a dead fawn on the ground, blood trickling from its’ neck. Turning around I saw a man heading toward us, gun tucked under his arm. I glared hatefully at the man and walked up to him, poking his chest. “You, sir, are cruel. Do you realize what you just done?!” I shrieked.
“I killed a deer?”
My mouth dropped open is disbelief. “You didn’t just kill a deer! You killed freaking Bambi!”
The man scoffed and began laughing. “Bambi, shmambi, it’s just an animal.”
This guy was really beginning to get on my nerves. “Oh really? Just a deer? You do realize that this is private property, therefore I could turn you in to the game warden.”
I smirked as the man’s dark, stormy grey eyes widened. “You wouldn’t turn me in. You couldn’t. This probably isn’t even your land!”
Pulling out a deed, I smiled sweetly at him. “Oh, dear sir, you are mistaken. It is my land.”
“Stop calling me sir, the name is Erin. What does it matter to you, girly, that I kill an animal on your land? It’s just a deer.”
I shook my head at him. Erin really didn’t have any common sense. “The name is Carly, Erin. It does matter to me that you killed this deer on my land because, it is Bambi! Can I not stress that to you enough? What if Bambi had a mother or a father that was heart-broken over his loss?! HUH?!”
“Carly, what if I let you shoot a deer? If you feel any pleasure at all from shooting dear ‘Bambi’ you won’t turn me in. Sound like a fair deal?”
Nodding, I said, “Yeah, fair deal.”
Erin led me to a tree stand and we climbed up it and just sat there….and sat. Hunting really was boring in my opinion. You just sat there waiting for a buck that would never show. The sun beat down on you and you sweat the whole entire day. What was the fun in this? Then, there was the whole part of being quiet that I hated. I mean, seriously, would a deer really hear you all the way from high up in a tree?
Suddenly, Erin jerked both of us up. “Look, right there. There’s a 6-point buck. Shoot it.”
Erin handed me the gun and I loaded it and put it up to my shoulder, steadying it. Cocking it, I pulled the trigger and an explosion sounded. The buck peered up, but that was the last thing it ever saw. The bullet hit it square in the head, and it collapsed. I gasped and collapsed down on the tree stand. “Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. I killed Bambi’s dad!” I wailed.
Erin patted my shoulder, “Props to you, getting a 6-pointer. That’ll look nice on your wall.”
I shook my head back and forth, tears threatening to fall. “No it won’t! You can have it! I don’t want a reminder of my killing Bambi’s dad!”
Erin glanced down at me; he seemed shocked about my ranting. “Carly, are you about to cry?”
I sniffled and a tear escaped; my bottom lip trembled and I said in an attempt to sound strong. “No, I’m not about to cry!”
Erin wiped the stray tear off my face. “Don’t cry. I’m sorry Carly, if I knew you would you react this bad to killing him I wouldn’t have made you shoot. I’m sorry.”
I pushed his hand away. “Don’t be sorry. After all it’s only a poor, sad, little animal.”
“How about I make it up to you?”
I glanced up at Erin. For a guy, he was kind of…beautiful. “With what?”
Erin began his descent down the tree. He yelled out, “How about I pick you up at seven and we go out to dinner?”
Heading down with him I said, “Yeah that sounds good. I’ll see you then.” Jumping from my place on the ladder I touched down neatly on the ground. “By the way, I’m not calling the cops on you.”
Erin laughed and yelled to me and I began walking away, “So you enjoyed it?”
I turned back around, gun cocked and pointed at him. “More than you know.”
His eyes widened and he said, “No, no, no, no. You can’t shoot me!”
I fired the gun and he fell from the tree, falling down onto the ground. “I just did…it’s your fault you know, you’re the one who killed Bambi.”
I walked off once more, gun slung over my shoulder. Well….crap. Oh well, the wolves, coyotes, and vultures would soon take care of all the bodies. Erin had what was coming to him. After all, he killed Bambi.
