I like fire. A lot. This is problematic, because I’m dumb enough to burn the hell out of myself. Which I’ve done on numerous occasions. All the same, I love fire; it is my friend. Even if it burns me a lot.

That isn’t really the point though; the point is that I’m burning Josh Burke’s underwear. All of them. And, goddamnit, I keep burning my fingers!

Why am I doing this? It was a dare; well the dare was to burn one pair of his undies, but he made me angry, so I decided to burn them all. Which is why I’m freezing my ass off while I toast my fingers in the middle of the night, in Zak’s backyard.

Zak is my best friend and Zak is Josh’s younger brother. Zak is my age and Josh is two years older than us. Honestly I foresee this causing problems, what with me and Miranda, my second best friend, sleeping here tonight. Really though, Josh deserved it and if Josh killed me then his parents would kill him. So ha!

Although, I don’t think that will save me. Josh’s parents really just seemed more amused by our antics than anything.

There’s a burst of laughter from Miranda, “Zak, what the hell?” she giggled while she talked, and it made her hard to understand. Across the fire from us in all his lanky bleached blonde glory Zak was, well, I’m not really sure. His hands were waving jerkily over his head and he was doing a sort of shuffle thing with a serene look on his face.

I couldn’t find it in myself to be surprised, this is what Zak is like, all the time and I was still too angry at his brother to find it funny. Which, I suppose makes Zak’s fire dance appropriate; this is what he always does when I burn Josh’s things. Miranda’s not been around long enough to know that though.

Especially since Josh has been fairly okay since I burned all of his CD’s three years ago, and that was before Miranda moved here. I don’t know why he snapped at Zak today and I don’t really care, I’m just going to burn his things until Zak stops looking like he’s going to cry.

Zak is a normal brother, he cares about Josh a lot, tries to make him happy and understand him and I know how that could be annoying, because Zak is hyper, and honestly just a bit of an odd duck. He’s still the best person I’ve ever met and the smartest too, even if you’d never know it at first glance, what with the manic grin you’re sure to see first.

On the other hand, I don’t know what happened to Josh to make him such an ass.

He hit Zak today, he’s got a nasty purple bruise across his cheek now, and that’s why I tore all the seems out of Josh’s pants and threw what was left in the garbage.

I understand that Josh has issues, and I understand that I’m probably not helping him with them any, but nobody fucks with my friends, not even their big brothers. Especially not when Zak thinks Josh is a god no matter how much of a shit he really is.

I’m obviously a protective bitch and Josh obviously has forgotten that. I’m just going to have to make him remember.
