“Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell.”

- Edward Abbey

---

Humans don’t just have cancer, we don’t just get cancer, we are cancer. Growing and growing and growing and killing anything that gets in our way. Cancer kills people and in the end it kills itself, and we will too. I know this.

I doubt I’ll be around for that. Cancer kills people, and people kill people, and I think I’m going to die. All I did was go to the bank. I don’t think I’ll walk out alive.

In the end I don’t. I leave the bank in a body bag and I know that I have succumbed to the disease that is my own species. It feels fitting, that I was killed by what I am. Just another human, another person, another part of the disease. And now I can pass on knowing that my body can become something more useful in death than it ever was in life. It will decompose into dirt and it will become a part of the world I helped destroy in life. I will become a treatment and hopefully I will help the world live a little longer.
