No pants in class. A true journal entry.
By Robert w Kingett.
Intro. I just wanted to tell about this one day I had. Since this is a journal, I didn’t describe what anyone looks like. The descriptions are below.
Me… I'm sure you know what I look like and act like…
Thomas ray… very blind 5 feet 6 inches with short straight and neat black hair. Usually has his head down, and has a slight southern accent. Wears a yellow rain coat, and has sunglasses. He usually wears a watch on his left arm. The watch is almost silver with a white Braille face.
Travis brown… a black very blind almost balled headed kid who is buff, slim, and muscular. He is 5 foot 5 inches, and when he smiles, you can even see his teeth gleam. Has a white scar on his left temple. Has a voice with a heavy black accent, and he sounds like he is sleeping the whole time. Wears normal clothing usually without any logos or designs, and his shoes are the same. Travis has white shoes, sometimes-gray brand name shoes. Has a huge ego, and is nice to everyone.
Amanda fur… very opinionated and perverted. Very blind. Has long brown hair, which frames her head nicely. She has a smooth face with round cheeks and a short nose. Her clothing is usually that of a boy because she is such a tomboy. Have braces. Thin lips and an evil smile. She does not mind speaking her mind, and likes people who share traits with her.
Maria… a short girl with long black hair. She is a little less than 5 feet and 4 inches tall. She has a thin mouth with thin eyebrows, and a smile on her face almost all the time. Her cheeks are flat, and slightly pale. Usually wears clothes that don’t stand out.
Dareale… tall Hispanic brainy kid with plain clothing and sometimes wears glasses. He has a soft slightly accented voice, and has short crew cut hair. His face is oval shaped, but framed nicely with his thin mouth and wide smile.
Mrs. G… plump albino with a round face and white hair. Usually wears all kinds of clothing, and has a soft voice that always sounds like she's rocking you to sleep.
Mrs. Parsons, short slightly round teacher with curly brown hair. She has wide eyes, and wrinkles on her round face. She has a nice voice, but you can tell she's getting old. Most of the time a smile is on her face, even when she's a little bit mad.
Q… Amanda fur’s tall very blind copper colored skinned boyfriend. At least six feet tall and 8 inches or higher. Looks like a beanpole, and has a balled head. His brown eyes are almost all the time closed, and his clothing is that of ordinary attire, with no designs on them what so ever. He talks at rapid-fire speed, and even though his voice has a heavy black accent, his deep speech rarely says slang words except for around his friends. He likes to also use improper grammar. Never uses his cane even when he has it.
Well, that's all the main characters! Hope that you all enjoy!
I wake up to the sun not shining on me. I look ahead of my position to see an almost black sky. Weird. I think to myself as I just lay there. It's never this dark outside. What's going on, some kind of tornado? I slowly roll over and touch my clock on my bedside table.
7:12. it says. Holy crap! I had better get moving! I spring out of bed and toss some clothes on. I look all over for some kind of a sweat shirt but none comes to my hand. Don’t tell me I have to walk in this crap! I walk out of my room and into the kitchen to see Thomas ray making waffles.
“Do you want to have one?”
“Um… sure… do you know if it's raining outside, or is it just cloudy?” Thomas with his raincoat on puts the waffles in the toaster before answering me.
“Yes. It's raining like cats and puppies out there!” he then starts to purr with his mouth. That's shocking to me, and I show it by laughing.
“Um, Thomas? Are you feeling okay?”
“Of course I am. Puppy!” I laugh again. I can't help it. The way he says that sentence is just so hilarious! I suddenly jump like 4 feet in the air when a crackle of thunder erupts. Short bursts of lightning flashed in the sky. I do have to admit… I was scared. I was more than scared. I was terrified. I picture some unknown being shooting lightning bolts out of his hand down at the earth.
“Robert! Your waffles are done.” Thomas says like I didn’t hear him.
“Okay! You don’t have to get like that…”
“Well you didn’t answer me at all the first time I told you”
“Oh. Sorry.”
“It’s okay.” By this time, we are both sitting at the table munching on our breakfast. After we are done, I get all my stuff ready to go. As I do so, I can hear booms from outside, even through these walls. The sky is almost looks like it's in the hours of darkness and being lit up my lightning every minute. Where my window is no trees so I can't tell if a wind is blowing or not. Scared out of my mind, I continue to get my stuff ready. After I do that, I walk out of my room and into the front hallway of the dorm. Mr. Terry is there, looking like a fat Santa clause as usual. His deep voice asks one simple question.
“Are you ready to go?”
“Excuse me? Hang on a minute. What do you mean go?”
“I mean go to school.”
“Yeah. Where is the van?” he looks at me with a face that says “van? You must be retarded there son!
“What van?”
“Oh you know.” I say still thinking he was just messing with my head. “The van that's supposed to take us to school.”
“Robert… there is no van that's supposed to take you to school.” All I can do is stand there and gape at him. What he says doesn’t even sink in until like about 66 seconds later. I am shocked, and completely amazed. So, I say the only thing that escapes my lips.
“Huh?”
“You will not be taking a van.” As if to put a seal over his words, two kids walk past me and out into the almost black infested world.
“So… I… have to walk?” he looks so happy he smiles at me.
“That’s right!” as if warning me not to do it a huge crackle of thunder booms shaking the huge structure I am in now.
“You got to be kidding!”
“I'm not!” no way. No way! This was so stupid! Hell, I don’t think stupid even covered it! Did he actually want to have us walk all the way to the front of the campus in this? Was he nuts? Thomas came up behind me and said
“Okay. We are ready to go.” That makes me so mad I almost shout.
“No. hold on a minute! We are not going anywhere. You can go Thomas, but I'm not going to catch ammonia just because I want to get to my precious class early. They should provide transportation!” I crossed my arms in pure defiance over my chest I stand my ground.
“So… where's the van?”
“There is none.” Seeing no other choice, I slowly step outside into blackness.
My long walk to the front of the campus is filled with so much adventure I can't even describe it all. As I walk, lightning shoots down from the sky bolt after bolt. The sidewalk that leads to the front of the campus is right next to a road, and cars were parked literally bumper to bumper. As I walk past, I look at all the different model and colored cars packed so close together. Making sure, I get to the section of sidewalk that's the closest to the road. I jack my thump up, and hitch it high in the air with each step I take. I know people see me, because they flash their lights at me. I also see a buss up ahead. Even though the cars may not be going in the same place as I am, I know the buss will. Walking up to it, I jack my thumb up at the yellow buss. The doors slowly open. I yell at the driver.
“Let me in!”
“No son!” a black person yells back. “I can't!” with that he closes the door, and as the buss rides away, its tires shoot up water all over me. By this time, I'm shivering like a mad man, and the sky gets even darker. Damn it! I think in my own head. Why didn’t he let me on! I don’t get it. Why didn’t he let me on? Cars pass by, and I jack my thump up again still walking against the 45 mile per hour wind. Lightning shoots so close to a tree I scream like a little girl. A red car pulls up, and without even asking I bang on the glass. She rolls down the window.
“Let me in, give me a ride!”
“No. I'm sorry! Rules forbid it, so stop trying to hitch hike.” Even though she doesn’t hear me, I say one word under my breath that she would not like at all.
So, with that out of the way I trudged onto school still. The sidewalk led to an intersection, and in that, intersection there was a huge puddle. The thing looks so deep I can swim in it. Just then, I hear footsteps behind me, which means I have to move now or else be knocked over. I step into the intersection and instantly my knees and below am soaked with water. I wade through it though, until I almost fall. A hand grabs me and holds me up straight. I look up as far as I can to see Q with no coat on what so ever.
“Where’s your coat?” I bellow at him as lightning shoots down from the sky, and thunder shakes the ground. I look down to see that the water only comes up to his ankles. I hate tall people. He then bends over so he can hear me. I repeat the thing I shout.
“What good is it going to do? You’re just as soaked as I am” he did have a point. I start to turn, but lose my balance, and almost plummet downward but he yanks me up again.
“What the hell are you doing out here boy? You can hardly walk anyway. What are they, nuts?”
“More like retarded!” I shout. He helps me across the puddle. I start to let go of him, when the wind blows and actually pushes me back into his chest.
“Oh! What now rob! Trying to hit on me now?” I want to punch him so bad I feel my fists itch, but I plunge on forward. After that, I meet Amanda fur and Maria in the lobby of the school, and like usual, Amanda is speaking her mind.
“This is all so fucking stupid! I'm suing this school if I catch fucking illness or something! I will! I'm not kidding!” Maria just looks down at the floor. Q and I have to heave our weight on the door to get the thing to shut. After we do that though, Travis bursts in, cane flying. It hits me in the crotch, and I double over moaning.
“Oh damn. Who that?” he says. I look at him only to see he doesn’t have that much clothing on. Like me, he just has a sweat shirt and pants on. The pants are grayed, but drenched in water they look like brown pants. Mine are the same.
“Hi Travis! Did you get soaked too?” Amanda sarcastically says.
“Oh no.” I say on the floor. He's all warm and hot!” Amanda laughs.
“Honey, I bet he is!” oh dear god.
“Who’s on the floor?” Travis asks. He bends down and feels me shoes, then his hands travel to my soaked pants. He knows the kind I wear.
: Oh no! I killed Robert!”
“Yeah. You killed me. That's why I'm talking to you now.” He actually looks relieved.
“So what do we do about our crap?” Amanda suddenly asks after about a minute of silence.
“I think we should strip and just go to school naked.” I joke. Amanda and Travis look at me like that may be a good idea.
“Let’s change clothes.” Q says.
“With what?” Maria asks. “We all have nothing here. It's all at the dorm.
“And what's the point? It's going to get wet again anyway?” Travis says. I stop and think about this, and notice that he's right. We would all be good for eight hours out of the day, but what about after that time period? Were we all going to get just as soaked as we are now? As I am thinking about this Amanda is walking to the office. Her shoes sound like they have sponges in them.
“Amanda, where are you going to go?” she turns, and looks at a point over my left arm.
“I'm calling someone who can get our damn clothes dry. Screw this!” with that, she whips her hair around and marches into the office. I look down and see that Amanda's hair actually makes a small puddle on the red carpet.
“Do you think we are going to get sick?” Q asks me clapping a hand on my shoulder.
“I don't know. I think so, if we don’t get out of these drenched clothes that is.”
“Okay. So what are we going to change into, a new skin tone?” Travis says. Travis has an air he puts out there like he knows all, and no one else has the answers. He also never shows his true emotions
“I don't know. You tell me.” I spit. “Since you have all the answers.” Travis looks at me like he wants to hit me.
“Well damn Robert. What's up your ass?”
“Sorry. I'm just ticked about this situation!” after all of us sit dripping in the hallway for a few minutes; Amanda comes out and just continues walking past us.
“Who wants to get dry?” she booms. We all say “me!” at the same time.
“Then let’s go to Mrs. Parson’s room. Hop to it!" we all go outside, and into the next building, and up to the second floor, and at last in her room. When we all came in her eyes went huge like saucers.
“Um, what happened to you kids?”
“We went swimming because we were just bored. I quip. She laughs at all of us.
“So I take it you want to use my dryer? Amanda here tells me you do.”
“That would be nice.” Q says. I kick him without her noticing.
“Ow!” he yelps. “What did you do that for?”
“She’s helping us; you don’t have to be sarcastic about it!”
“Okay. Let’s go!” she takes us all into a room with her stove and all her cooking equipment in it. The room basically is a kitchen with a dryer in one corner looking completely out of place. As we all file in, we all sit and start to take off our shoes filled with water. Some people’s shoes actually make tiny puddles after they take them off. I want to get my socks dry as well, so I do. I look down at my brown pants, now looking like they were made in the mud, and slowly bend down to undo my pants.
“Um… Robert? What are you doing?” Maria asks me as I hide my boxers with my shirt.
“What does it look like I'm doing? I'm not catching some kind of an illness because I don’t want to get undressed.” I proceeded to take off my pants, and then I look around the room to see I'm not the only one doing it. Travis and Amanda are both doing it as well.
“Hang on; let’s do that across the hall.” Mrs. Parsons says. We all go, chattering like mad monkeys as we go. In the dark classroom, we all take off our pants and shirts, and now just standing in our boxers and undergarments. The room is so dark though that you can't even see anything even if you used a magnifier, and besides, everyone was blind there anyway, so what was the big deal. I half expected someone to be all immature and stupid and go
“Ewe…” but no one does. We all just get undressed right in front of each other. By this time, multiple puddles have been made on the floor, and our bodies hover close to each other shivering. I never have been so cold in my life. Travis and Q are squeezed near my body, trying to get warm. Their skin feels hot against my cold skin.
“This is nuts!” I chatter. My whole body almost quivers from the cold. Hands grab mine, and Travis's voice cuts like a knife through bread.
“Damn. He's frozen over here.” In my towel, I am shivering, and we all by this point make our own little puddles on the floor. I can feel water conjoining together to make one huge mass of water under my feet.
“At least no one can see us.” I say. I should learn by now that I should always, and I do mean always, keep my big fat mouth shut. Every time I open my mouth and say something, god always contradicts me. He never fails to turn anything I say and flip it around. This moment was no exception. Almost half a second after I manage to say that, about five kids come in the room, all looking like they were dry as an indoor locker room. I don’t know this at the time, but they were in fact dry. Someone looks at me and then let’s out this scream that can break glass eyes.
“What are they doing in here?” Kaila cries in utter horror. Her black face looks like nothing more than a floating shadow in this dark room. I smile at her, and wave my hand at all of us in turn.
“well, we heard that you were going to be taking sex education, so we thought we might just drop in. you even get a little anatomy out of it too!” she's looking at me like I just said the grossest sentence ever invented in the English language. She even took a step backwards away from me. Her speech was frightened and completely grossed out.
“Yeah!” Amanda pipes up overhearing my response. “We are going to teach you all about body parts, and about sexual situations!” all of us crack up. I on the other hand stood silent just shivering where I was. Q and Travis still stood beside me making me look like an Oreo cookie.
: you know?” Amanda continues. I know what she's going to say, so I interject before she can
“This is the closest anyone's going to get? I agree.” She looks in the direction of my voice and calls back.
“I was going to say this would make an interesting news story but that's true to. She then stood there just laughing aloud at the comment that I had said.
“Can we sue the school?” Travis asks me. I think for the longest time, then looking directly at him I say
“Well yes we can. If we get sick, that is. If we don’t get sick, we can't.”
“You want to bet on that honey munchkins?” Amanda asks me.
“I know we won’t be able to. The school has lawyers up their-“I was cut off by Mrs. Parsons sharply saying
“Let’s keep it PG. okay?”
“I guess we can do that…” Amanda says with a hint of sarcasm in her voice. More kids gasp as they come in looking at all of us almost naked right before their eyes. It was slightly hilarious to hear, and Q and Travis were lapping it up like dogs.
I know! I know! Me and big T, here are sexy, but you all have to wait you all's turn. I'm available anytime-“Q starts to say, but Amanda cuts him down.
“No. your not. Anyone comes near him, and they get a knee to the crotch and a fist in their mouth. Besides, you all can't match up to me. I'm his girlfriend, so back off!” kids actually did back up a few inches.
“Isn’t it kind of weird that we are arguing about boyfriend and girlfriend’s while in our underwear?”
“Oh. It's hot!” Amanda says.
“It’s annoying.” Travis says.
“Attention!” Mrs. Parsons says shooting down all the small chatter instantly. “Some kids are here because they are drying their clothes. Please let’s keep this as mature as possible.” Kids looked at me for some reason, and it took me a while to realize that my teeth were chattering so much I was bleeding.
“Um… Mrs. Parsons?” a black kid started to say. “Roberts turning blue.” She looks at me and then gasps with utter astonishment.
“Dear me. You are!” Q and Travis look at me in shock. They both come over and stand next to me.
“He’s ice.” Q says.
: I’m cold.” I chatter.
“Let’s go some place else.” Amanda suggests.
“Yeah, and where?” I inquire. “The roof?”
In the end we all went to Mrs. G’s room and had steaming hot chocolate. Ass Mrs. G served us, she complained the whole time about how they should have provided us with transportation, and that she would not stand for this kind of atrocity even if she liked the school. As we, all drank our drinks still sitting near each other for warmth I felt like we all were some rather messed up family. I am feeling like this is somewhat nice, since we all didn’t hang out otherwise. We all had our separate paths to walk on, and we all were so territorial that we didn’t need or want to have people share that path with us. All of us kept to ourselves, even me, and this was a nice change. Dariel came in and helped us get our cloths and stuff after they dried. Before that though he comes in and just starts chattering right along with us. Even though this moment and situation was totally degrading, I wouldn't trade it for the world!
“Oh!” Travis exclaims. “A marshmallow!” he starts to play with it in his cup. He's moving it around with his mouth, making it look like it's bobbing in the cup for no reason at all, and it's going to go around the cub just because it's bored.
“Now that's gross.” Maria says looking like she wants to heave.
“Well, I have had my adventure for the day!” I say to the mass of different people all huddled in a circle.
“I propose a toast!”
“It’s I would like to propose a toast you ding bat.” I say to q.
“My bad. Anyway. I want to propose a toast to…” he falters looking for the right word or phrase.
“Nudity in the class room!” Travis, Amanda, Maria, and I cheer all at the same time. With our mugs held high, we clink. That was a bad idea because some hot chocolate sloshes out and drops on us. It felt great. Travis’s marshmallow landed on Q’s balled head. We all burst out laughing never wanting to let this point and time go.
Eventually that event did have to stop, and we all had to return to class.
“Isn’t it like a little screwy that none of us actually talk to each other during the day, and yet here we all are??” Amanda had said exactly what I was thinking.
“Like I didn’t know you were such a smart ass.” She says looking at me.
“No problem.” I say. She laughs.
“And just this whole moment… I will never forget it!”
“Me either.” I chimed in. the whole group cheered, and then we all departed on our own separate ways. As I watched the people go, I knew that Amanda was right. She would never ever forget this moment, and neither would I. weeks, or even years later, I would pick up the TV remote that held all my memories, and flip through the channels. I would look back on this memory, I was sure, with a look of happiness and laughter on my face, and a sense of loss in my soul. I would never delete this memory, even if I wanted to. It was just too valuable.
