“If stupidity got us into this mess, then why can’t it get us out?”

- Will Rogers

---

I’m dumping Jon. Not that we were ever together to begin with- what I mean is that he is -was- my best friend. We’re not dating.

Although apparently most people think we are, which is why we’re in this mess in the first place. Why I’m in this mess, Jon, lucky bastard, isn’t really involved anymore at this point. But I think I’m getting ahead of myself, let me explain.

Jon and I are not popular, and today the schools alpha male decided to direct his make-fun-of-the-little-people campaign at us. He insinuated that Jon and I were dating.

To put it bluntly -and that’s what Jon did- I am gay and Jon is very much a guy, which makes him entirely the wrong gender for my affections. Problem: up until Jon blurted this out in front of the whole school I was only out to him; I only wanted to be out to him. But my best friend is an airhead and it’s common knowledge now.

And now I’m getting all sorts of sexual propositions- from guys. Jon thinks this is funny; Jon is an idiot. This has been mentioned.

Is ‘lesbian’ synonymous with ‘whore’ everywhere, or is it singular only to hill billy high?

Not that it really matters; I think my high school reputation is dead either way.

Why can’t stupidity fix things instead of ruining them?
