Years ago my grandmother used to tell me this story about the time she contracted Scarlet Fever. So I took her story and made it rhyme.

Scarlet Fever

Written 8/5/05 By Cassandra L Freiborg

The day the Scarlet Fever came,

They locked me up with all the blame,

And said that I was too sick for them to stay,

The day the Scarlet Fever came.

They locked me up inside my house,

With nary a friend within or out,

And left me there to rot in doubt,

The day the Scarlet Fever came.

They gave me on choice, a toy to have,

To help with me while the fever was bad,

And to a child, one toy is sad,

The day the Scarlet Fever came.

I chose a puzzle, with which I'd play,

To ease myself through the day,

And when this was done it'd be burned away,

The day the Scarlet Fever came.
