vacation

Dusty roads lead the way,
to where we want and you'll say,
we'll go together to NYC,
the brightest city you'll ever see.

The lies will fall and love will rise,
I won't be anywhere but in your eyes.
Our hearts will beat to the time of the world,
the ribbon in your hair will be the life we unfurled.

Things will improve like my vocabulary,
clothes to us will become arbitrary.
we'd lay in bed for hours on end,
I'll play the heartstrings that you did mend,
eyes smiling, with your lips parted,
we'll sing goodbye to the brokenhearted.

Then we'd walk though Central Park,
you would shine even in the dark,
I'd pine for the hours you'd be away,
and I will die when you're gone for a day.

We'll learn German or perhaps Swedish,
I'd do anything, I'd grant your every wish.
We'd marry on a silly whim,
but it'd mean everything.
I'll save the silly pictures,
say thanks to our well-wishers.
And I'd sweep you off your feet,
to sing and dance on Broadway street,
even if you've been there before,
you haven't been with the one you adore.

But now I drift back down to earth,
hold back my tears for all they're worth.
I wish we could do all those things,
and enjoy the gifts that love brings.
