Didn’t you notice?
The thrills and chills
got dull and warm,
when I stopped sleeping in your
bed every night.

Whose fault is that, my scavenger king?
You lead me to inferiority
then plunge back under
for the treasure I missed?

Am I not a Goddess?
Pulled from the sea to comb your hair,
touch your skin,
whisper you mad with the tingling of spider-legs?

A girl named Beauty,
you thought I was everything,
and now I wear a bathing suit
and kill fish with my carnivorous teeth.

You made me a monster,
sided with my enemies
when my salt-smoked lungs
fell out of practice.

You made me a mistake,
crippled and tied by the nothing
of nature’s circles.

But I prefer solidarity,
over songs of romance flitting past
your honey eyes.

Set sail, my love,
reach for those crystal dunes
My wind will never find
your hanging sails.
