Pierce the Stress Away.
A piercing was the one thing I needed. I needed something to erase the past, to erase all the stress in my life. Call me strange but whenever I was stressed getting a piercing or something like that helped. It’s unbelievable, the feeling of a piercing about to get done. The adrenaline builds up and your senses are like haywires, flying every which direction. Then finally the gun or the clamp goes through what you’re getting pierced…piercing slips in, and it’s all done.
That’s when my stress recedes. The adrenaline stops and I feel more relaxed than I ever have in my life within those next couple of minutes. That’s why I love to get piercings. Piercings save me; piercings are the one thing that help my stress when nothing else can. That’s why I’m now sitting in a chair in a tattoo shop called Faery Den.
A man with wild, red hair sat in a chair beside me getting his equipment ready. He had snake bites, an eyebrow piercing, an industrial, and numerous ones aligned up his ears. Slipping on his gloves he held out a hand. “I’m Dan.”
Shaking his gloved hand I said, “I’m Robyn.”
“Robin like the bird?
I shook my head and the rings up my ears clanked loudly, making me blush. “Sorry, no. It’s y-n, not i-n.”
“Ah well, still a good name. So what do you want done today Robin?”
I shrugged. “To be honest, I have no idea. I’m tired of getting my ears done, so I’m thinking about getting my lip done. That okay?”
Dan laughed and pulled out a clamp. “Totally fine, you’re the one getting the piercing, not me. What do you want? Snake bites? Angel bites? Devil bites? Just one on the left or right?”
I shushed him. “Shush, shush! I don’t know. I want my lip done on the right, I think.”
Dan raised his eyebrow, “Think?”
Laughing I said, “I’m positive I want that done.”
Gesturing at a case he said, “Pick a ring then to go in it.”
I pointed at a black one with hints of red in it. “I want that one.”
Dan got the ring out of the case and readied the clamp in his hand. “This might hurt a bit. Just relax.”
I leaned my head to side as the clamp slid into place over my lip. I could feel it, the adrenaline building, my heartbeat pounding, everything on sensory overload. “Just go ahead.” I said.
I could hear Dan count to three in his husky, yet masculine voice. “One, two, three.” The clamp slid in and I did all I could not to wince. Pulling the clamp out he slid in the ring and put non-toxic anti-septic around it. “Just put that over it three times a day and wash your mouth out with salt water after. You should be fine Robyn.”
Dan handed me a mirror and I gasped when I saw my new piercing. “This looks awesome Dan! Thank you!” I threw my arms around him and gave him a hug.
“No problem Robyn, come back in you ever need another piercing. This one can be free of charge on one condition.”
Glancing sideways at Dan I said, “What’s that?”
“You let me take you out on a date to get to know you better.”
I flushed and said, “Sure, I’ll do that.” Pulling out a pen I wrote my numbers down on his hand. “I hope you don’t tell all the girl customers this.”
Tilting my face up and looking in my eyes, Dan said, “No, just you. You’re different than the rest of them.”
“I hope that’s a good thing.”
“You bet it is.” Dan captured my lips in his and gave me a sweet, long kiss.
I never wanted it to stop, but alas, humans have to breathe. We tried to pull apart and I nearly yelled in agony. I whispered to Dan trying not to hurt myself, “Dan, we’re stuck.”
He pressed his lips to mine once more. “I know.” Reaching up he pulled out his bite and separated us. Putting it back in his lip he smirked.
I looked down blushing. “That would be my luck. Kissing you and getting our piercings stuck in each other.”
Laughing, Dan kissed my cheek and led me to the door of Faery Den. “I’ll be calling you soon Robyn.”
“I’ll be waiting on that.” I turned and walked out into the night, not knowing what tomorrow may bring. Maybe today was the perfect day to get a piercing. Come to think of it…I had never felt more relaxed. Sighing contentedly I continued on into the night, letting the darkness engulf me as I headed off home.
