Mad Hatter's Party
“Come and join me”
Said the Mad Hatter,
I stupidly nodded,
To mask away a mending,
of a heart once mortally,
wounded.
I came to my senses,
To decline but alas!
Dragging me out of the blue,
To his steam filled domain,
I pitied the lack of guests,
So I stayed in spite,
Of my dislike,
To his little March Hare.
A fair complexion I never knew,
Finds a seat next to mine,
Of all the empty ones,
Along the long table,
Till question marks fills his face,
Like a curious kitten,
Or an overgrown child;
Oddly I looked forward to,
Tea parties of such,
Peering over our teacups,
Smiling at the sweetness,
Of the bitter cakes,
Stealing glances,
Between the grains,
Of falling sugar.
One day I walked in,
As Alice in red,
Startling his hat off,
I backed away,
Like a timid mouse,
Sniggered at my attempt,
To win at least a Cheshire grin;
Often I watch him in a lone stroll,
Following his own path,
Perched on his own branch,
Envying his alter-ego,
Who dominates the stage,
Shadowing ‘Gluttony’ – his sin,
From the world around him;
Might I soon be headless?
For the Queen’s binds,
Unseen but be wary,
For I both fear and fret,
The Knave of Hearts;
In a way I am thankful,
To be invited for tea,
No matter how reclusive I am,
I find a friend,
In a feline’s teeth,
Yet it is still a bother,
To be sucked into this Wonderland.
