You Did It In The Dark

You did it in the dark.

It seems a fitting place

For such a deed.

I listened to you hiss

As you produced

A dripping hachure of crimson

Against your flesh.

You’re a beautiful girl

In an ugly world,

One that’s loud and harsh

And full of terrors much worse

Than the fears of dreamers.

So you bleed out your release,

Desperate just to feel

Something

Because the city’s too bright

To escape to the stars.

And my heart breaks,

Not for your broken skin,

But the wounds you can’t

Put a Band-Aid on.

I want to press my lips

Against the red lines—

On your wrist,

On your ribs,

On your thighs—

Kissing away the hurt

And replacing it with

Love.
