The True Version of Snow White

First of all I'd like to say that the version of Snow White you all know is not the true story. I'm about to tell you what really happened all those years ago.

My name is Jezebel I was young Snow White's step-mother.

The story started when my husband the king lost his first wife. He took me as his new wife so his daughter might have a mother to look up to.

Snow White was a beautiful baby but grew into an attitude contrary to her pretty face; she was in simple terms, a spoiled brat. Her father the king gave her whatever she wished because she reminded him of his beautiful first wife. As Snow White's surrogate mother I tried to discipline her, but she was used to having whatever she wanted and all I got in return for my efforts was her intense dislike.

My woodsman, Jack, would often have free time so he became Snow White's somewhat caretaker. They grew close and would often go for picnics in the woods, which is where one of the rumours spread from. It is true that I have a magic mirror but I did not stand in front of it all day to increase my vanity, I asked only about the beauty of our land. I would ask:

"Looking-glass, looking-glass on the wall,

Whose land is the fairest of them all?"

The mirror would reply:

"O queen your land is fairest of all"

I lady queen was well satisfied for I knew my mirror could not lie. One day however when I asked my question my mirror replied:

"O lady queen your land is surely fair and well

But fairer still is over the hills where the dwarves dwell"

Intrigued by the mention of more beautiful land then mine I decided to send the woodsman and young Snow White to look at it and come tell me about it.

So off they went with a basket of food to explore the beautiful land over the hills. Many hours later Jack came running into the throne room telling the tale of how Snow white had run away from him and he had lost her in the woods. Frightened for my step-daughters safety I rushed to my magic mirror and asked:

"Looking-glass, looking-glass on the wall,

Where is my young daughter, fairest of all?"

And my mirror replied:

"O lady queen, your young daughter is alive and well,

Over the hills in the house where the seven dwarves dwell"

For days I searched the forest with Jack and the king for the dwarves' house, when finally we found it we ran to the door, but Snow White refused to come home so long as I was there.

For months I tried to win her over, I brought her gifts and food as wonderful as the get. Stay-laces, a beautiful comb, and finally a basket of the most glorious apples in the world. Each time she came out the door to accept the gift but then scurried back inside once it was in her hands to appreciate it. Finally as I gave her the apple and she brought it to her lips I thought for sure I had won her over. But on the first bite of apple she choked, she had locked the door so I couldn't get in to help her.

A young man on a horse rode by, I begged him to climb through the window and save her, after one glance inside he fell in love with her pretty face and was immediately inside giving her mouth to mouth resuscitation. After a moment she coughed and the piece of apple fell out of her mouth.

She fell in love with the handsome young man (a prince of a nearby kingdom) and after a respectable length of time dating he proposed, she said yes immediately.

My life wasn't quite as happy for awhile however, I was arrested for trying to kill her (which I hadn't!) after a couple months I was let out on parole and eventually (thanks to my good behaviour) I was released, just in time for the wedding too.

Snow White and I have some to an understanding (especially now that she has a young daughter of her own and knows of the need for discipline). She can still be rather vain at times but she is overall a very nice girl to spend time with.

So I guess we all lived happily ever after, after all.
