Sarah

Don’t believe your mom when she says
“You can have more than one best friend.”
That’s just a lie that mothers tell
When they want you to get along with everyone.

Best: of the highest quality, excellence, or standing.

If you had more than one best friend,
The word “best” would lose its meaning.
And what’s a word without the meaning to go with it?
How can more than one person be the best,
the highest quality, the most excellent?

Two people can never really tie for first place
because there’s always one tiny detail
that makes one better than the other
(if not a million tiny details).

I know that this is true,
because I have one best friend.

You’re my first place.
