This Book
This book, thick, enticing, lovely and mysterious as a new-found forest. Unknown, different, unique in its own way, it stares up at me, a mahogany cover, titled in gold. Quietly, the ruffling pages, aged and ivory open with a whisper of the promise of a good story, gaining in momentum. And now, turning the ink filled pages it becomes a ship, carrying me off.
Now, it is a stepping stool, just off the ground, but still in reach, you see a world from a newer height, a new view. And, now, it is a planet, spinning silently in space. There is an untouched beauty here, you don't want to leave. This book now is my best friend, calm and yet exciting, dangerous, but safe, it goes with me everywhere and it takes me anywhere. Perfect, wonderful, this book is my friend.
