unholding dear hard sleep

shock red deep the guts sink and the pipes are
thinner than i remember them under a tree singing
refusing to drink from your cup silver coke in the pale
sunshine hot spread on their stomachs and you
watching you recording you trying to remember

then it's dark but always glows their skin in
cold morning and wet dawn

you young dynamites don't understand what these
times mean when they move another small inch away but
i do sometimes i can
see clearly past the themes of classic plots
and feel without thinking and think full
of thought i can't hold my breath much longer

so i let go holding a cap-gun reflected through technicolor
screen doors that open from the outside-in

they slide closer and your spirit falls away

maybe you're sunken into sleep but i wouldn't know that
just seeing you in this light
being too awake to compromise or close my eyes
on terror
peace

on a chariot comes the butterflies born by long arms
pulling wires through the cosmos i've come
to know their flutter by name so suddenly i'm afraid
i might forget the whole story if they leave
me here with you before i save this
