On the most perfect Saturday,
you
won't see me stir for the alarm clock.
The trashcans clanging in
the alley
will receive no recognition.
The car alarms outside
my window
will be nothing but ignored.
The pounding on the
door,
ignored.
The phone ringing in the hall,
ignored.
The
shouts of neighbors,
the blaring engine sirens,
the shriek of
the fire alarm…
But when your precious, warm body
shifts in
your sleep,
my movie camera mind calls action.
Amidst smoke and
panic,
I will do nothing
but cherish your sweet slumber.
