CHAPTER ONE

Logan Masterson stepped into the library, his deep blue eyes scanning the room. He could have sworn he saw her walk in here. He hadn't seen her since December at his family's Christmas party. Hell, he didn't even know she was a student here. He looked around for a few more minutes, ready to give up until his eyes landed on a blonde sitting by herself at one of the tables.

Logan grinned. He had to admit, she looked pretty cute with her nose in a book, diligently writing down notes. Her blonde hair was in a low ponytail and a Yale sweatshirt over her athletic frame. Logan briefly remembered her from high school, but they weren't exactly friends back then. But now that their younger siblings were sort of dating, he had a reason to talk to her, right?

“This seat taken?” he asked.

“No, go right ahead,” she replied, not looking up from her book. Logan sat down in front of her, but her eyes never looked up at him. He sat there quietly, smirked to himself, and pulled out some homework of his own.

Back in their hometown of Fairfield, Connecticut, Logan Masterson and Charity Kennedy ruled Notre Dame Catholic High School together their senior year. Logan was the King and Charity was the Queen. No, they didn't date each other back then, but they were able to come to some sort of compromise and rule the school together. Charity was the bitch and Logan was the manwhore. It worked out for the both of them. Now if they could only get their siblings to do the same.

Logan chuckled to himself and shook his head. He still couldn't believe that his brother, River, had actually bet Charity's sister, Fallon, that he could get her to fall for him. What an idiot. They definitely had a complicated arrangement, but Logan didn't want to think about it too much. They were almost adults. They could deal with their bullshit by themselves.

At least when he and Charity were seniors, they were sort of friends. Even though Charity was such a bitch, she was a saint compared to Fallon. Logan was just happy that he never got on Chairty's bad side. He was sure there was some kind of demon in there if you were in her line of fire. She was the more serious ruler of the two back then. Charity always wanted things her way and she usually got it, since no one had enough balls to cross her. She had her share of 'serious' boyfriends, but how committed could they be if she was single at the age of twenty?

Logan, on the other hand, wasn't as serious as Charity was. There were times when he was a real asshole, but he never made another person cry. Scratch that, he never made a guy cry. The guys back in high school either worshiped him or feared him, and sometimes a combination of the two. He had his group of guy friends, but they were either suck ups or just plain shitty friends. It wasn't until he got to Yale that he found some real and honest friends. Girls... well, girls were a different story for Logan.

Sure, he had his flings and a very long lost of ex-girlfriends, but Logan couldn't help himself. He loved women. They were one of his favorite things to study. Their body language, the way they presented themselves; everything about women fascinated him. Logan didn't care that he'd never had a serious girlfriend. Why spend your life dating one person when there were so many more people out there?

Logan was the carefree Masterson boy. Being the oldest of four, he tried to set a good example for his three younger brothers. River was the brother who was the most like him, except for the fact that he was now willingly dating a girl for five months. Brock was the more hard-working one. He had the serious girlfriend and was serious about what he wanted to do with his life. And then Forrest was the charming one that everyone loved. Even though he was only six years old, Forrest knew how to work the Masterson charm better than his three older brothers put together.

“Logan?” a voice pulled him out of his thoughts. Logan looked up to see a petite brunette standing next to the table. What was her name again? Rylee? Kylie? Logan couldn't remember. He didn't spend too much time getting to know his one night stands.

“Hi...” Logan said slowly. Logan glanced over at Chairty, who was now looking at him, green eyes very amused. “Can I help you with something?”

“I... I...” she stuttered. Aw, she was shy. Logan found that cute. “I, uh, thought you were going to call me.”

Logan scratched the back of his head nervously. Had he said that? He couldn't remember. Even if he did say it, Logan was never good at keeping his word with the randoms. “Did I?”

The girl nodded. “I thought we had a good time the other night... I did at least... didn't you?”

Fuck. Logan hated when girls got attached like that. He wasn't good with commitments. He'd find a way to fuck them up eventually, so he figured he wouldn't put in any effort. “Yeah... I did,” Logan said slowly. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Charity smirk. “I must have lost your number,” he shrugged. “Do you mind writing it down for me again. Just so I don't lose it?” Logan handed her a pen and she wrote down her number along with the name 'Rylee'.

Rylee smiled shyly at him. “I hope you don't lose it again,” she said.

Logan flashed her a smile. “Me either. I'll give you a call when I have some free time.”

“Okay,” she nodded and then hesitated before giving Logan a quick peck on the cheek. She waved quickly and disappeared from his line of sight.

“Nice save back there,” Charity said, writing down more notes from her book. “I was wondering how you were going to pull that one off.”

Logan chuckled. “Yeah, well, you know how it is. Women just fall in my lap like apples.”

“I'm sure,” Logan saw her roll her eyes. “So what are you doing here?”

“I'm a student here....” Logan was confused.

“Obviously,” she looked up at him, green eyes meeting blue. “Fallon told me you went here the last time I talked to her.”

“Ah, how is my brother's lovely girlfriend? He fuck her yet?”

“How vulgar of you,” she replied dryly. “For your information, yes, he has. They went out on Valentine's Day and I quote 'had some really good sex.'”

“Atta boy,” Logan grinned. “Gotta keep up the good Masterson name.”

Charity shook her head. “'Good Masterson name'?” she repeated. “I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure you tainted that name back in high school. I can't believe you set that kind of example for your brothers.”

Logan rolled his eyes. “So says the girl who's sister is the current Queen Bitch. Fallon had to learn that from somewhere.”

“Fallon's always been like that,” Charity defended. “I'm not as conniving and manipulative as she is. But you never answered my question, what are you doing here?”

“I thought we already established the fact that I'm a student here.”

“I know that, I'm not an idiot,” she said. “I meant that I'm in the library all the time and I've never seen you in here until now. I thought you would be out fucking a girl like Rylee,” she tapped her pen on Logan's paper.

Logan grinned. “Normally I would be, but I saw you come in here. Thought I'd make your night more eventful,” he winked.

“Stalking me?” she smirked. “I thought women 'fell in your lap like apples,'” she used his words against him.

“They do,” he assured her. “But girls like Rylee never follow the rules correctly.”

Charity looked confused. “What are you talking about?”

Logan sighed. “She was a virgin,” he said simply. “Don't get me wrong, I love virgins. They make all the right noises at the right times,” he grinned. “It's just that most of them seem to get really attached,” he shrugged. “I've collected so many v-cards I don't know what to do with myself.”

“You're such a pig,” Charity said. “You definitely haven't changed a bit from high school.”

“And you're still as bitchy as ever,” Logan countered. “Jeez, Charity, I didn't know talking about virgins would make you so defensive.”

“Don't you ever feel bad for fucking girls without loving them?”

“Does Fallon?”

“We're not talking about Fallon,” she said. “What my sister does is her own business. I think it's wrong that she sleeps around, but I'm not going to stop her.”

“Are you saying you're trying to stop me?” Logan asked.

“No, I'm just saying,” Charity shrugged. “I know girls want their first time to be special. With someone they're in love with and loves them back,” she had a dreamy look in her eyes. “You ruin it for them when you take it from them.”

“You're telling me that the first time you fucked a guy you were in love with him?” Logan said incredulously. He knew that people could be in love at a young age, but at age twenty, Logan just wanted to have some fun. And if that included having some fun with more than one person, then so be it.

“I've never had sex with anyone,” Charity said seriously.

“What?”

Charity rolled her eyes, annoyed. “You heard me, Logan. I'm a virgin.”

“But you had boyfriends back in high school.”

“People who date each other don't need to have sex with each other to have a good time. Just look at your brother and my sister. They waited three months to have sex with each other again. They seemed to be fine without doing it.”

“Yeah, but they eventually gave in to their needs,” he reasoned. “You can't tell me that you've never thought about it.”

“Oh, I've thought about it,” she said slyly.

That piece of information intrigued Logan. “And do you do anything about it?”

“Like... what?” she asked, a glint in her eye. Logan knew she wanted him to say it.

“Like touch yourself,” Logan raised an eyebrow. “Or let anyone else touch you.”

Charity shrugged and leaned back in her chair. “When I have some free time on my hands,” she grinned. “I usually find some way to satisfy myself.”

“All by yourself?” Logan asked. That didn't sound like much fun. Although her choice of words was slightly turning him on, the thought of Charity Kennedy touching herself definitely made him grin.

“Ah, I never said that,” she smirked. “I just said I found a way to satisfy myself,” she reminded him.

“I don't think technology is as fun as the real thing,” Logan said. “I'm sure I could find some way to satisfy you,” he said suggestively.

Charity laughed. “If I was having trouble in that department, I might take you up on that offer.”

“Why not just get some good penetration if you're going to fool around with someone?” Logan wondered.

“Like I said before, I want to be in love with someone the first time I have sex. I can fool around with someone and not be in love with them. You should know the term, it's called a hook-up. Aren't you the King of those?”

“Yeah, but I'd rather go all the way home instead of being stopped at third base. Foreplay can only go so far.”

“Haven't you ever wanted to be in love with someone, Logan?”

Logan shook his head. “Charity, I'm all for people falling in love at a young age, but I'm the kind of guy who wants to have some fun. I figured I'll get in a few good fucks under my belt before I settle down with someone.”

“I can see where you're coming from, Logan,” Charity agreed. “But how will you get to know if someone's right for you if you slut it up all over campus?”

Logan shrugged. He actually didn't have an answer for her. Throughout high school, the thought of settling down never crossed Logan's mind. And now in his sophomore year of college, the thought still never seemed important to him. Sure, his mother was now on his back about her oldest son settling down, getting married, and starting a family, but Logan had no desire to do it yet. He wanted to have his fun.

“Well?”

“I guess I'll just know when the time comes,” he finally answered. “We're young, Charity. We don't need to be finding the right person for us in high school or college.”

“To each his own then,” she shrugged and started packing up her books. “It was nice talking to you, Logan,” she got up from her chair. “Maybe I'll see you around sometime.”

“Yeah, see ya,” Logan replied and watched her walk away.

Did he really just have a semi-civil and slightly half-serious conversation with a Kennedy girl? Logan couldn't believe how different the two girls were in the looks and personality department. Fallon was the darker, more exotic looking one with tan skin, dark brown hair, and ocean blue eyes. Charity looked more like the girl next door with creamy skin, blonde hair, and green eyes. Fallon was the outspoken and bitchy one and Charity was the silent and bitchy type. Clearly she was the more serious one as well.

Logan shook the thought of the Kennedy girls away. He didn't need to have them on his mind. He already got an earful about Fallon from River, he didn't need them on the brain at the moment. Logan started to put his books away and took his Blackberry Curve out of his pocket.

Scrolling through his address book, he pressed the green call button when he got the name he was looking for. “Are you busy tonight?” he asked the person on the other line. “Good, I'll be over in twenty minutes.”

Logan couldn't concentrate. Here he was trying to give his regular booty call a good fucking and he couldn't focus his attention on her. His mind was somewhere else.

She must have sensed that his focus was off because she pulled him down for a kiss. Logan kissed her back, his lips massaging hers, but he wasn't as into it as he should have been. “Logan?” she asked, her breath coming out in short pants. “Baby, what's wrong?”

“Nothing, just...” Logan trailed off, trying to give her his full attention and with a few more thrusts, she let out a scream and Logan kept moving until he quietly groaned to himself. He collapsed on top of her and waited a few seconds to catch his breath before rolling off of her and laying on his back.

As soon as Logan closed his eyes, she opened her mouth to speak. “Something was wrong tonight,” she said. “Wanna tell me what's on your mind?”

Logan shook his head, eyes still closed. “Even I have my bad nights, Crystal.”

Crystal let out a laugh. “Logan, you and I have been fucking for months and you've never been this distracted. What's on your mind?”

Normally, Logan wouldn't have a heart to heart of sorts with the girls he fucked for fun, but Crystal was different. She wasn't looking for a boyfriend and Logan wasn't looking for a girlfriend. They knew that they were just fuck buddies and nothing more. Every now and then, they would just talk all night and sometimes they would talk after having sex.

Logan sat up in her bed and rubbed his eyes tiredly. “I don't know. I was trying to focus, but I just couldn't get this thought out of my head,” Crystal sat up and Logan turned his head to the side to look at her. “I was talking to this girl earlier and she was talking about sex and love and blah blah blah.”

“I see,” she said slowly. “Virgin?” she guessed. Logan nodded. “Maybe she's into you.”

Logan laughed softly. “Nah, you don't know her like I do. She's not the kind of girl who wants the manwhore to date her. She wants one of those serious, 'I'm head over heels for you' types of guys,” he explained. “You know me, Crys. I'm definitely not that guy.”

“But I do know a thing or two about girls, Logan,” she reasoned. “She was probably thinking about you the whole time she was giving you her spiel about love.”

“And if you're wrong?”

Crystal shrugged. “Then I'm wrong. But if she is into you, then why don't you take the time to get to know her? You never know, something good might come out of it. You might even find yourself genuinely liking her.”

“What's that supposed to mean?” Logan scoffed. “I genuinely like you.”

Crystal smiled. “I genuinely like you too, but we both know that this little arrangement we have is as far as we'll ever go. I know like attracts like, but opposites attract too. Besides, even thought you're hot and a really good bed friend, you're not the type I'm looking to settle down with.”

“Gee, thanks, Crys,” Logan said dryly. “What kind of guy are you looking to settle down with?” he asked, curious.

“Logan, you're the guy that every girl wants. You're the bad boy type, which is hot, but again, not for me. I'm more attracted to the clean cut, boy next door.”

Logan laughed. “The boy next door isn't nearly as much fun as the bad boy,” he defended.

“Ah, well, I just haven't found one good enough yet,” she smiled. “You'll do for now though.”

“Thanks, Crys,” Logan said. “Now you make me want to prove that the bad guy is way better than the good guy. Don't you watch movies? The bad guy is always better looking anyway,” he winked.

“Well, what are you waiting for?” she challenged. “Are you going to prove it to me or what? Or do you think you're still too distracted for round two?”

Logan grinned. Crystal knew that Logan couldn't resist a challenge. None of the Masterson boys could. It was in their blood. “I think I'm energized enough to give it another go.”

“Well, show me what you got, Masterson.”

“Gladly.”
