The Lamppost Is My Friend

The sidewalk walks beneath me While I there concretely stand It yields a pair of paths That operate atop the land

I look beyond the farthest tree But cannot stretch my gaze Unless the other path behind Reminds me of those days

I see the calendar roam by It dances through the crack On it looms the fear of time That cripples what we lack

Before I choose which way to go I stand a minute more To listen to the sidewalk speak Of feet that did implore

It would not tell me what I heard From people passing by But spoke instead of fallen dreams To leave me with a why

The stone then walked too far away To hear another sound It was the silence of the walk That turned my life around
