Child Prodigy

When I wake up
From the cave of night
Time will pick up
Where I left off

I'll be seven again
Splash through the sprinkler
Chase cootie-girls for a kiss
Smash rain puddles in big black boots
Race stomach-first into the backyard pool
Drive passenger-side buckled fast past golden arches
In the rain

The restaurant closed
The rusty old sprinkler
The girls forty years bolder
The pool filled with concrete
To forget how I slipped...

All out of time
But I'm still sleepy and
Cold and can't wake up
Do you think it'll rain?
