AN: I am at last starting something on FictionPress that will be continued, on and on and on. This is the first part of my Poetry Corner, and I hope there will be many more. This first poem was written about a year ago and is entitled Lies. Enjoy!

Lies

Everyone's felt something at one point in time
Whether it be love, or hate, or too much wine
Of course, you will feel the pain, that much is clear
But sometimes you'll feel happiness that you want the world to hear
Then one day, when it's all going away,
You'll feel your spirit dissolve, just as you resolve
The conflicts of your life
And everything that gave you strife
What is this elated feeling, you'll ask,
This feeling that, till now, was hid behind a mask?
And then you'll soar, hear the thunder roar
As you glide through its skies of blue
What is this feeling? you resound,
That appears as freedom unfound?
I answer you not, as you fly on through
I answer you not, wait for you to see the truth.
Your smile grows, your impulse shows
I see your eyes shine for the very last time
How can you not know what this is?
After so much pain and hate without the bliss?
You look into my eyes, as if to see my heart
But I turn away, before you can start.
Because, in my eyes, there sadness lies
The truth of all can be so small
Your smile fades as the truth invades
This dream gone wrong is a nightmare long
I turn back to you, look to your eyes
And now, you shall no longer see lies
My friend, I say with a gentle voice,
Why do you ask that I make this choice?
To give you lies of happiness,
Or feed you truths of sorrowfulness?
You ask me what this feeling is,
This feeling of the purest bliss?
You see, after all the lies of Death,
'Tis the last thing you feel, after all else is healed:
The peacefulness of Death.
