Chapter One
A Party Song
As I left the house, I was sure that with in the hour cops would show up because of a noise complaint. The stupid rap crap was being played so loudly the alls were shaking. In all honesty, I was surprised they weren’t there yet, but I figure, it’d be best to get out of there before they showed up.
I felt the chill of the cold night air, even if it was early June; it tended to be cold around midnight in this stupid farm town. Suddenly, when I saw that the streetlights were out on the whole street in the direction I was headed, I wished I had arranged for another designated driver. Even though, technically, I was supposed to be a designated drive, but Carmen was a bad drunk, I dared not even approach her at the state she was in. She could puke at any given moment. And because of that little fact, I didn’t want to get the keys to the car from her, so I left the house, completely sober since drinking wasn’t my thing nor were any other substances, and made my way home.
But I didn’t even get two houses down before I heard my name being called. “Hayden!”
I turned around and much to my surprise; Darren was jogging up to me.
“Where’re you going Hay?” he asked.
Though my heart began to pound, over the last three years of high school, I’d learned to control it. “Hey Darren.” I said playing it cool, nonchalant, like I couldn’t care less he was there. “What are you doing here?”
“You can’t answer my question my question with another question.” He said looking at me with his gorgeous hazel eyes. “ But if you have to know, I’m just finding an excuse to get out of there before the cops come.”
I laughed, “Well, I’m heading home for the same reason.”
“Don’t you have a ride? A pretty girl walking alone in the dark is dangerous.”
I calmed myself, my blood pounding in my veins; I really didn’t under stand how a good-looking person and a simple combination of words could do this to me. I smiled. “I see through your flattery Mr. Warren, but I was a designated driver, but a drive can’t drive without keys and Carmen could blow chunks at any given moment, I’d rather not be there when she does that.”
“Some friend you are.” He shook his head, “We made a deal, if she got anywhere near that level of drunk I was leaving her. And for your information, I’m a good friend, she’s puked on me four times while I was cleaning her up at my house.”
“Excuse me.” We walked in silence for a moment, the temperature in my body rising just from him being near me. The loud music was beginning to get softer and softer.
“So where do you live?” Darren asked breaking our comfortable silence, at least for him it was probably comfortable, for me, my insides were going insane. “I’ll walk you home.” He continued.
“I live a few streets down.” I explained.
I began to tug on my house key that was on a chain around my neck. I needed to do something to keep my body from spontaneously combusting. But something about this made me feel daring, confident, and I didn’t know why.
We were a few houses away from mine when I asked, “Do you want to come in for a drink or something, coffee?”
He laughed, “As much as coffee would keep me awake on my own walk home, I don’t want to wake anyone up in your house.”
“Well, lucky for you, my parents are out of town on a cruise for the next two weeks and my siblings have all moved out.” I tried to hide the hope in my voice for that to change his mind.
“Really? You’re parents leave you alone for two weeks?” he asked in disbelief, “I’ll be eighteen in a couple months and my ‘rents don’t trust me as far as they can throw me.”
I looked up at him, “Should I trust you?”
He just looked at me, like he didn’t know how to answer, but the look in his eyes made my finally calming heart rate speed up again.
“So how about that cup of coffee?” he said, “Is the offer still open?”
I walked up my walkway motioning for him to follow me. He did. I wondered if he noticed how dangerously close he was to me or maybe I was hallucinating.
I opened the door, turned off the alarm system, and turn on the lights. “Come on, to the kitchen.”
He followed me to the kitchen and squinted when I turned on the bright lights. “Damn.” He said trying to adjust.
I went over to the coffee pot and began the usual coffee making routine as Darren looked at the fridge, there were a lot of pictures on it.
“You’re so tiny compared to your siblings.” He said smiling at a picture on the fridge.
“Yeah, I get that a lot. All of my brothers are over or around six feet and I’m here stuck at five five.”
“Would they beat me up if they knew I was here at this hour?” he asked with an amused smile on his face leaning against my counter tops.
“Probably, but lucky for you, they aren’t here to find out.”
He smiled, “lucky for me.”
And we stood there for a moment, him leaning against the counter and me, I was pretty close to him, and that feeling of confidence came back.
“Darren.” I said and moved slightly closer. I looked up into his hazel eyes, “Can I kiss you?”
For some reason I was expecting him to be outraged or push me away telling me he didn’t think of me like that, but he didn’t do anything at all, so I took my chances and moved closer again. I put the palm of my hand at the nape of his neck and I tip toed up to kiss him. My lips brushed against his and his body went stiff, I was about to pull away, but then his hands on my waist.
“I have a girlfriend.” He whispered against my lips. I knew that, but I really didn’t care right now, I’d probably gain a conscience in the morning about this, but I had pined for Darren since freshman year. “I know.”
He didn’t move me, and neither did I, I was waiting for him to do something but we just stood there like that, until he kissed me. I wasn’t expecting it, but it was the most amazing kiss I’d ever experienced. His hands pulled me closer to him, eliminating all the space between us, so I was pushed up against his hard body. His tongue slipped into my mouth and his hands began to move.
The atmosphere meditated, it wasn’t just an experimental kiss anymore. It was a real one, an urgent one, a deep one. And I knew where this was going to end up and I wasn’t going to stop it.
Darren figured it out too, and when we pulled apart to gasp for breath, “This is a one time thing.” He breathed.
“I don’t care.” I panted softly.
“I have to leave in the morning.”
“I know.”
He looked into my eyes and I was afraid he was going to change his mind, leave me standing in the kitchen, exposed, wanting more, but he didn’t. He leaned down he kissed me again. And I led him upstairs to my room.
A/N: Wow, my first time starting a story off like this. Let me know if you liked it, Chapter two will be up soon.
