underwater, short of drowning

she is the goddess of all the water
and her hair is like a set of snakes,
all serpentine and slithering, blue
in her sparkles, green everywhere
else but her jet black eyes. oh, sea
shell saver, castles in the sand, salt
in a sweet kiss from the mermaid;
so bitter, so reminder of the last
weeks of summer, how fall is fast
winds and not sailing on her ocean.
she dunks and dives into the waves,
the tides washing her away, goodbye
say the sailors and she sends them
dear john letters, signed from ursula,
from medusa and persephone, every
woman who chose to rule over a man
-atee or a sea lion, creature of the deep
cerulean sea. her wings flutter and ripple
as she swims, scales shimmering in sun,
her entire body so blinding to any who
risk their sight to look upon her now.
she is the goddess of all the water;
sirens sound when you speak her name.
