It's daybreak once more, that click was the last;
I know how dark it'll be from this moment on,
Those shadows that future nights can cast;
And it's as if I'm walking again, through eternity on my own -
Tell me it's a bridge in time, tell me I'll never be alone.
Nothing lasts forever and we both know it's true;
Even in the most abstract of moments, fragments can be strewn.
What certainty is there for us to hold onto tonight,
If there's no faith in our hearts until one of us takes flight?
I catch a tear in my palm as another falls out of reach,
Each one telling a tale, a long forsaken speech;
Memories of hope that from now on are lost, and
Memories without realisation of things to come -
There's nothing more we can do but wait for the frost.
Yes, it's hard to hold a candle in a raging thunderstorm;
My cupped hands are no defense against Nature's frigid form,
And when the flame stops burning the night turns cold again,
I set down the stump of wax, I leave it in the rain.
No more refraining from staring at your shadow,
No more looking up at the slightest creak of the door;
No more wishing that you would smile and hold me in your arms,
Because there's no door to wait at, you can't walk through no more.
