The History of the Ghost Train
(Including excerpts from
The Altizer Manor Mystery)
The ghost train, featured in The Altizer Manor Mystery, is a local ghost in Old Town Manassas. It is little known to the residents of that area of the city because of the nearby train station, but it is frequently heard at the Altizer Manor.
In the summer of 1804, Walter Altizer built a manor for his wife, Rose, in what is now Manassas. In July 1805, Walter was killed by a butcher's knife and Rose was mysteriously gone (although the cook was blamed). Soon afterwards, a train with many passengers crashed. Every night since then, Walter has come back from the dead. And many times a day, the ghost train comes back with its screaming passengers.
