this is not poetry the way words tumble through the cracks in
my mind and down my tongue and breathe your name
into your mouth, early friday mornings when i'll blow off school and lie
to my parents, lie side by side right here instead and wish i were falling
in love. reality's only something to be faced beyond these
steel-framed windowpanes (babe) and i, i don't want to turn away from
happiness just yet; check your sorrow at the door and fall into
step with another life, another heartbeat, another kind of
hope for a better way out.

(fly over the rainbow and back again,
darling; i like the way you squeeze my hand when it
really hurts & the rain washes our dreams down the storm-slick gutters.)

a/n: i don't want everyone to think i'm faking it
