Just At Midnight

-

We started out

Dark as night

As isolated as the moon

Forgotten like the last rays of sunlight

Creeping around the blinds

-

Things evolve

They change

Alone, we thought the nights

They couldn’t get any brighter

Yet together we could see the stars

-

Each pinprick represents a moment

Each pattern one we found together

At midnight we lay there on our backs

Can you still see the crumpled outlines

Carved right into the grass?

-

Before I knew it, the dents were all I could see

You didn’t come to visit me anymore

Alone in a world of creeping darkness

-

Because the stars aren’t wanted anymore

The moon has been deflated

And the million sunsets we watched together

You took back into black
