"His heart is still trapped deep within himself, in a dark abyss."
But somehow, characters ended up emerging, and i soon fell in love with my characters, i couldn't help but giving a background story on them....Anyway this is a short one-shot......PLEASE R&R!!!!! It'll make me happy!!!! ^^
October’s feet slapped against the concrete as she ran, her feet never loosing the pace, she ran around the campus searching, it was pretty dark and the lights were begging to be shut off. Only a classroom up in the second floor of the Art Department was on, but it still wasn’t enough for her to see her way. The full moon was what was lighting her way. The night was still and silent. She turned around one of the corners of the buildings and froze in her tracks, she had finally found her, she had finally found Rose. But when October went to step forward and approach Rose she realized that Rose was talking to someone. October squinted her eyes to try and figure out who Rose was talking too because that person was in the shadow of the building. The moonlight shone on Rose, illuminating her pale skin and her long raven hair suddenly seemed even longer, her lips were red, and October had to smile, she was still wearing that lip gloss she had bought Rose for her birthday. A slight fluttering began in her chest as she looked at rose. She leaned forward making sure she was still in the shadows though, and tried to see the person Rose was talking to.
Suddenly that person stepped forward into the light. October’s eyes widened, it was Ryan, his dyed black hair spiked out from under his Volcom hat. October noticed Rose’s expression change, her eyes filled with sadness and October felt a rage stirring within her. October stared at that uncaring expression of his, that he always wore, October just wanted to punch that look of his face. She had considered actually doing it too, just because she wondered if he would be able to show a human emotion. Ever since he transferred he had just been a bother, he always stole Rose’s attention. Even if Rose didn’t realize it, but the way Rose would look at him just pained October. That loving gaze, Rose had given him, a look that only October had ever seen before, Rose had given it to him. To everyone else Rose was a loner who didn’t ever show any emotion. But to October, she had seen Rose’s true expression, of both love and hate. Ryan stepped closer to Rose and said something, his expression unwavering. A long time ago, Rose would have knocked out anyway who stood in her way, or who dared to talk to her in a rude manner.
She was the strongest person October had ever met.
But, she never had a really emotion, nothing in her expression ever gave her away. She would always be in the back of the room daydreaming, so everyone assumed that she was stupid because she would never pay attention. But when everyone took the SAT’s, it had been announced that Rose had gotten the highest score, a perfect score to be more precise. After that people tried to talk and become friends with her, mostly because they all wanted someone to cheat off of. Everyone except October though, she was already smart, and she didn’t need help. But one day Rose went off at this girl who had asked her if she wanted to go to a study group. Everyone knew why they wanted to study with her, to get homework answers, they thought they had all fooled Rose into thinking that hey wanted to be friends. But Rose knew what was going on, which is why she went off. From then on everyone was convinced that she was some kind of psycho.
But a few days after that October was partnered with her for a project in physics. October actually hated her back then, no she didn’t think of Rose as weird at all, or even “the smart girl”. She thought of Rose as the girl, who was prettier than her, of course she never would have admitted or even thought that. But she overheard a conversation between some boys, October or Rose? Who they thought was prettier. October continued to listen because she was convinced that they were going to compliment her, but to he surprised all the boys said “Rose”. She definitely got a shock that day. She couldn’t believe it; they picked a freak over her! But she did understand…what they were saying…….
“If were talking about just looks, Rose is definitely prettier.” “But if we were talking about personalities or popularity, October would definitely be the better choice.” “It seems like such a shame, that a girl as pretty as that would be so weird.” “Yeah”
From then on, she decided to learn everything about Rose, she only saw Rose as her rival from then on, and all she wanted to do, was crush her more, than she already had been. She began being nice to Rose, and tried to become friends, she wanted to be Rose’s best friend, if only to back stab her. But soon enough she found that, when they were together, they would always be laughing. When they were together she couldn’t help but laugh at Rose’s jokes. She couldn’t help but smile every time she saw Rose, letting that warm feeling engulf her. She even began to defend Rose when others were trying to talking bad about her. Before she realized that she had, or what it really meant, she had become Rose’s best friend; she began to love Rose, very dearly. But no matter how much she loved Rose, how much she had tried to cheer Rose up. Rose was always sad, and angry, she always had that expressionless face, when around others. Rose was still trapped in darkness, in a dark abyss. October had decided from then that, she would let everyone else see Rose’s true smile. And slowly but surely she had saved Rose from that darkness, October pulled her out and let everyone else see Rose’s true smile. Rose became more social and happy, October could tell by the new expression on her face. She was always smiling now.
But now, as that boy stood before her, she knew the Rose was going to cry, because she had gained her emotions back, she had changed. But instead she did something that the old Rose would have done. She stared the boy straight in the eyes with the same pained expressionless face she always wore before. October’s heart was torn, was Rose reverting back into her old ways? Or maybe Rose never really had changed? For a moment she say emotion flicker through that boys eyes. But it was quickly dismissed; Rose said something that he obviously didn’t like because he turned around and walked away from her. October stared at Rose for a while wondering what she was going to do next. Rose collapsed onto her knees and hands, her raven her covered her face. October ran to her.
“Rose! Are you okay?” October said worriedly. Rose sat up and stared at October for a second with that expressionless face. But then her usual sanguine self returned and she smiled brightly.
“I’m fine.” Rose said.
“Why were you talking to Ryan?” October asked as she helped Rose up. Rose dusted off her jeans before looking up at October.
“No reason, I just happened to bump into him.” Rose replied pushing back a lock of her hair behind her ear.
“Then, why did you have that expression?” October said desperately
“What expression?” Rose said confused.
“That emotionless expression you use to have! Why did you have it while talking to him?” October shouted. Her eyes laden with worry.
“I need to prove something.” Rose muttered as she looked down.
“What do you need to prove to him!” October said. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing; Rose actually wanted to change back to her old self to prove something to him?
Rose remained silent; her eyes remained locked with the concrete.
“Why are you so willing to sacrifice everything for him!? Why him!” October yelled. Rose looked at her, disbelief written all over her face.
“Why are you willing to throw away everything just to make him happy!?” she yelled. Her brown hair swung around her. Rose looked at her with a sad expression and a slight smile in her eyes just the tinniest bit of hope.
“Because, I was once like him, stuck in a deep dark abyss, without anyone to reach their arms out to me, to pull me out. But, then you helped me, you’re my best friend October, you pulled me out it because you loved me. I thought you would understand why I have to do this.” she said, standing directly in front of her best and only friend.
“But you have reached out your arms to him! You’ve done everything you can to help him, you extended your arms farther than anyone else had even dared to try!” she said. Unable to hide her dissatisfaction.
“I know I have, but I haven’t been able to grab hold of him, and I can’t give up, you never gave up on me remember! So I can’t give up on him!” Rose replied. Her eyes full of hope, October looked away from her; she couldn’t look into those eyes of hers, not now. She continued yelling.
“Well then that’s his fault! If he refuses to jump and grab hold of your hands! Why don‘t you give up already! You‘ll never reach him; stop throwing away all you have for him! He‘s just a useless piece of shit! He‘ll never amount to anything, and no matter how much you care for him. He’ll never love you back!” October knew it, but would never admit it, Rose was in love with that boy, and as she repeated that fact to herself her heart retched with sadness, she just felt like falling to her knees and crying but instead she kept yelling.
“No, no-” Rose shook her head, she knew it was true that he didn’t love her and that he might never feel the same way but, she had to try.
“Why can’t you give up already! Even you can realize it! He doesn’t love you and he never will!” October shouted, her eyes blared with hate for that boy, why should he get her? He doesn’t deserve her! No one does! No one can compare to her kindness, and even if someone got it, why him?
“He doesn’t deserve your kindness, but you’re just so stupid you can’t even see how much he really hates you!”
“Shut up already!” Rose said tears leaking out of her eyes.
“Rose…”
“He doesn’t hate me! So shut up! I know he might never love me, but one thing he will never do is hate me!” tears continued to flow down Rose’s cheeks. October was speechless, she couldn’t believe herself, and she knew she went too far, with telling her that he hated her. But, she couldn’t keep the words from spilling from her mouth, October cursed, she felt disgusted with her self.
“I know he might never feel the same way for me as I feel for at this moment. Which is why I’m willing to throw everything to earn his love! I must save him! But no matter how deep I extend my reach into that endless abyss, I can’t seem to pull him out!” She wiped her tears from her cheeks and looked directly into her best friend’s eyes, with such fierce gaze that October took a step back.
“Which is exactly why I am willing to give up everything, for him, even if he refuses to accept my reach, I am willing to jump into the dark abyss with him, and pull him out myself!”
“Rose…”
“I am willing to do anything, anything to save him. I love him.” Rose said. October looked toward the ground, now it was her turn to cry. Tears leaked out, and splattered against the concrete. Rose wrapped her arms around October, and whispered.
“The answer to all your questions, the reason I would do anything for him, it’s because I love him October.” October wrapped her arms around Rose and buried her face in Rose’s shoulder. Letting her tears soak Rose’s shirt, she gripped Rose harder like a little girl who doesn’t want to be separated from her mother.
“But why him Rose? Why him?” October sobbed.
“I’m not sure October, I really don’t know why, I just do. It’s a feeling i can’t explain, but don’t worry October. One day you’ll find someone, and then you will understand.” Rose said.
“But, I do understand it Rose! I understand it so much it hurts!” October said painfully.
“Well then why didn’t you tell me earlier?” Rose said. October pushed away from Rose’s embrace and placed her hands firmly on Rose’s shoulder’s and leaned forward, Rose’s eyes widened as October placed her lips against hers. Then October pulled away, but before she fully let go she whispered.
“Because, how am I suppose to say that I’m in love with my best friend?” October went to stand up and walk away; she had a feeling that Rose would never want to speak to her again. But instead, as she stood up Rose stood up as well, and before October could turn around, Rose threw herself at October, her arms wrapping arms wrapping around October. Tears were still falling from her eyes, and Rose lifted her face to give October a slight peck on the lips. October’s eyes widened in surprised and tears streamed from her eyes. Rose hugged October.
“I’m sorry October, I really am, I’m so sorry!” she cried. October hugged her back.
“Why are you so sorry for? I’m the one who was yelling at you, I was the one saying all those harsh things.” October said sadly.
“I’m sorry because, I hurt you, I can never return your feelings because I love someone else. I’m sorry October.” Rose replied.
“It’s okay Rose, I’m fine.” October said as she rand her finger’s through Rose’s long hair. Rose did not respond after that, silently sobbing.
“Because as long as I know that you are happy, it’s fine with me, I only want you to be happy Rose; I want you to be able smile brightly.” Rose still did not respond.
“I promise you Rose, that I will never leave your side, I just want you to remember that I love you Rose, and I always will. I don’t think my feelings for you will ever change so please Rose stop crying.” October said. Rose began to breathe normally again, drained of tears she whispered.
“You promise? That even though I don’t love you the way you love me. Do you really promise to stay with me?”
“Yes” October whispered back, she knew this very well, that Rose would never feel the same, and though it probably would be better to distance herself from Rose. October knows that it would only hurt Rose in the long run, so know matter how much her heart aches at the sight of her with someone else. She will always put on a smile, so that Rose will smile too.
“Forever?” Rose said sadly.
“Forever.” October repeated. Rose smiled and hugged October tighter.
“But you have to promise me one thing.” October said very seriously. Rose looked at her in question.
“You have to promise to smile, when your happy please smile, when your sad cry, when you’re angry show it. Please don’t ever suppress your emotions again; I don’t want you to self-destruct again. Okay?” Rose smiled and nodded her head as she hugged October.
“I promise.” Rose said.
“One more thing.” October said.
“What is it?” Rose said.
“You have to get Ryan to fall in love with you.” October said.
“October!” Rose gasped. She could believe October said that.
“Because if you don’t I’ll never forgive you. Save him Rose, save him and fight for what you love.” October said. Rose felt tears welling up in her eyes once more.
“Don’t worry; I don’t plan on giving up.” Rose replied.
“Good.” October replied as she held Rose. The two remained in a hug. Just as in a movie, the scene would slowly zoom out and fade. The everlasting bond of friendship and love, all entwined in one.
