When you come to college, you expect everyone to be confused. There are those few kids who know exactly what they’re going to do in life and will always know, but the majority of people who arrive on that first, terrifying day have no idea what the hell they’re doing. Pulling up to school on your first day and seeing all the upperclassmen screaming and yelling, you almost cried at the same time you was attempting to smile. You expect to not always like the food that isn’t like you’re parents make it at home, and you expect the bed to feel weird since it’s not really yours. The parties are expected, as are the late nights and awkward encounters in the hall where you almost run into people trying to carry your laundry downstairs.
What you don’t expect is to love it. The room wasn’t meant to suddenly become your home, and all of a your sudden roomates are family. You don’t expect to meet people who change your life the moment they enter it. You wake up one day and the world looks a little brighter, a little kinder, and a little bit easier to manage because those people are in it now. They’re struggling too, and they’ve gone through just as much as you have to get where they are now. Everyone has a story. No one feels on top of the world every day. There’s something special about every single person around you - the trick is to not look so hard. Who knows. Once you’ve stopped looking, maybe you’ll be able to really see yourself for the very first time.
