Chapter 1

A woman, clad in very fine clothing, stepped out from the passenger side of a dark blue Ferrari. This woman was Mrs. Eliza Anildyfri.

Mrs. Anildyfri had been a skilled figure skater when she was younger, but at the age of 24, when she had met her husband, she turned in her skates and bejeweled dresses for high heels and deep blue business suits. She now worked alongside her husband as co-CEO for a large firm. She now had a large bank account, a large yard, and a large home.

The manor sat on a green hill. Behind the fine white home was a forest, and hidden within that was a crystal clear lake where the wind seemed to blow all the time. However, on the other end of the dense tree covered land, was another hidden location. One where though the trees surrounding the area blocked it from sight, the land grew dry and a smoldering hot cave could be found against the wall of the cliff marking the edge of the Anildyfris’ land. The steamy cavern was located just above a cavity of molten magma.

But of course, no one knew of these places. No one did, except Mr. and Mrs. Anildyfris’ only son.

Cedric Anildyfri was an unusual 16 year old boy. Besides being exceptionally gifted in academics, the arts, and athletics, he was also gifted in a very peculiar way. It was his secret. The oddity only appears in the first born child every four generations. And it only appears in his family and one other, though their circumstances were quite different. All of Cedric’s family had orange hair and bright blue eyes. But every fourth generation, the gene would switch for one child. Cedric Anildyfri was born with swirling orange irises and a mop of marine blue hair. No surgery or dye could even slightly alter the color, though many had tried.

Cedric always knew he was different. At the age of 8, it was proven. Cedric revealed to be the next dual bender of the water and air elements.

But we’ll get to all of that later. Back to Mrs. Anildyfri exiting her car and walking up the worn path of the local orphanage.

Mrs. Anildyfri stopped when a scuffle on the side yard caught her eye. Two boys, it seemed, around the age of 14 or 15 were wrestling each other viciously. It appeared the brown haired boy was going to win; he had the other in a headlock. The one in a red ball cap and green cargo shorts surprised Eliza by swinging his leg up high, kicking the brown haired boy in the head hard. Upon being released ‘Shorts’ whipped around and landed a fast punch square in line with the brown haired boy’s abdomen. The boy keeled over in pain as the one in the cap ran off.

That’s what I’m looking for,’ Eliza thought, continuing up the path.

Pushing in the small disk of the doorbell, a loud, resonating dong-dong rang throughout the residence.

A rather disgruntled, hassled looking woman swung the old oak door wide open. Her silvering hair was unkempt and her old, dull, fading brown dress and stained apron were torn and sewn so many times it looked like a patchwork quilt. Upon seeing the refined appearance of Mrs. Anildyfri, the woman hastily dusted off her clothing and stood up straighter.

“Oh! You must be Mrs. Anildyfri! Yes, yes, we have your appointment all set up! Please follow me. My name is Muriel Grand.”

“Yes thank you Ms. Grand.”

The woman led Eliza down a dull, filthy hall way and up a flight of rotting wooden stairs. Finally the pair turned left and entered a small, cluttered room that appeared to be used as an office. Ms. Grand shuffled over and sat behind an ancient wooden desk. She shifted a few stacks of loose papers and envelopes off the surface and dropped them haphazardly onto the already paper covered floor.

“So,” Ms. Grand began, settling herself into the patched, office chair. “So you are looking to adopt, Mrs. Anildyfri?”

“Obviously, seeing as I am here,” Eliza stated curtly.

“Yes, yes. What kind of child are you looking for? Age, personality, and temperament are just a few characteristics to take into account.”

“I am aware of that. I was hoping to find someone to counter my son, Cedric’s, own persona. Preferably I wish to find someone around 15 or so, rather stubborn, intelligent of course, strong in character and in physique, and… hopefully a feisty… fiery temperament.”

“That’s quite a list. And you are looking for an unusual set of characteristics. Most want someone young and calm.” Ms. Grand stood. “However, I believe I have just the person you’re ’a lookin’ for. One moment please.” She scuttled around the desk and out the door, amazingly without upsetting any of the piles of paper and trinkets that coated the old wooden floorboards.

Ms. Grand appeared after a few minutes, dragging the boy in the red hat, sunglasses, and green shorts that Mrs. Anildyfri had seen upon her arrival.

“Who the hell are you?” the kid in shorts asked roughly. Their voice was surprisingly high. A baritone or alto, Mrs. Anildyfri thought approvingly.

Eliza Anildyfri stood and turned toward the pair. Stepping forward, she brought her hand to grasp the visor of the cap. “My name is Eliza Anildyfri.” She lifted the ball cap off the child’s head and locks of emerald green hair cascaded down onto the teenager’s red shirt. Mrs. Anildyfri removed the glasses and looked into the brightest shade of scarlet she had ever seen. The kid had grass green hair and blazing red eyes full of a powerful spit-fire spirit.

Hey! I started writing this story last year after finally sorting through all the possibilities that sprung up in my mind after becoming hooked on Avatar, The Last Airbender. Eventually, I plan on attempting to publish this, but want to know what people think about it first. I would also like to say if you want to read some of my fan fictions, check out my profile on . look up 'HermioneCullen-vampirewizard' in authors. I only have ones for Twilight up right now but I am writing one for Harry Potter too. Also, yes the last name Anildyfri is odd but there is a reason for it. you will see later on.

please review. They give me confidence what I'm doing is appreciated.
