(A man sits alone at a table. A good looking WAITRESS is in across the room talking about him in a negative way to a co-worker. She walks towards the table. The man is MARK an average looking man who has a minor, yet noticeable, flaw in his appearance or behavior. After chatting with the WAITRESS a bit, MARK decides to make his move.)
Mark: So, this Saturday is my day off. If you're not busy, I could stop by and we could go get a cup of coffee, or something.
Waitress: (Laughing softly, but very uncomfortable) I don't... um... It's probably not a good idea.
Mark: Oh, I understand. You would be embarrassed to be seen with me. Don't feel bad, I get it all the time. (Visibly Annoyed) You could run into someone you know, and wouldn't that be awkward? Sitting next to me, the guy that would make you cringe in shame as they gave you a questioning look that screams: 'what are you doing out with this loser?' Am I not attractive enough, not dressed well enough, do I just look like another creepy customer trying to get a date with you? You've just met me, but you've already decided I'm not worth your time. I might be one of the most amazing people you have ever met, but you would still be turning me down based on whatother people might think. That's pretty shallow of you. Maybe you just did me a favor. Why would I want to date a person so superficial and shallow and insecure about herself that she needs the approval of the entire universe before being seen in public with me? Take a chance, do something because you want to, not because you would attract strange stares otherwise. Don't be so vain as to think the world watches every move you make. They don't. Nor do they care. If your friends can't let you live with who you are, find new friends. Don't be the person to make snap judgments on people based on lame social norms. Who are you to judge me, anyway? You don't know me. My name is Mark, I'm a fun guy with a great sense of humor. I think I'm worth your time. No, I know I'm worth your time. I know my worth, and nobody had to tell me; can you say the same? Prove to me you're worth my time. Take a chance and say 'yes'. This Saturday? Around eight? I promise a great time. You'll be a better person for it.
Waitress: Actually... I just didn't think my boyfriend would like it.
