If you close your eyes then the galaxies align
Make a shred of sense out of all this bloody mess
And the stars form patterns from what once we called chaos
The swirling angry void we used to lament
Our fingers entwined with the austere chainlink fence
Contemplate the silence
Relegate the distance
So if I look to the sky for hope, will you come too?

Nursery rhymes for children and scowls from the cynics
I have hay fever to happiness on this blithe spring day
How I wish that I could crawl off in some corner and just
Sleep it all away
And don't think you can fix everything with a hug
I have seen the work of love, and it isn't magic anymore
Because I am losing my mind and my heart is
Melting through the floor
Can you patch it all together with a smile and a shrug?

And I am sorry, but when the sky lies crumpled
You can't just fly away
Denial never was quick nor easy
So tell me, I guess we're all okay?
If you're dying here, you have to find a way to leave
It's not enough to try, to fail and always deceive
Or you gotta believe tomorrow's gonna be a brighter day
And I'm sorry but the sky lies crumpled now
And you can't just fly away

Tears on your sleeves
Pounding footsteps on the cracking pavement
I inked down my fingers with words and letters but
It never sounds like poetry and my nightmares don't rhyme
Reflecting on the horizon all the pollution grit and grime
Watching as everything is falling out of place all the time
And I really want to scream into the pouring rain
Stand face-to-face with the oncoming train
Filled with a vastness I can't contain
I'm standing in the downpour still waiting for a sign

And I'm so sorry, but when the sky lies crumpled
You can't just fly away
Though maybe instead we could find a way through
And if I looked to the sky for hope, would you come too?
Cos I don't want to do this all on my own
And to tell the truth, I hate to be alone
And if you're dying here, you have to find a way to leave
When you're drowning you have to force yourself to breathe
(I have to force myself to breathe)
And if I look to the sky for hope,
I hope I remember to believe
