Icarus
When man flew too close to the sun, his wings of wax melted and he plummeted to the sea…
The Man could only one think one thing, as he looked at the earth from his T.V. screen on his space shift.
How did this happen?
They called him a second Icarus, a man who was flying close to the sun…
He created the Machine, people who were persuaded by pretty words to destroy the old world and create a better one…
“But I forgot, those persuaded by pretty words never do as they are told, for they too shall start thinking and rebel.” Said The Man, sighing, as the satellite fed images of smoke and burning cities to the T.V. screen. “Forgive me God, for rather then you, I have brought upon the next great extinction, by using the Machine who has lost all power to think for itself, and cannot tell the difference between old world and new world.”
It was then that red lights filled the space shift. As it did, The Man smiled. This was it- the sun was going to destroy him.
“Forgive me Earth, for you right- I am Icarus, a fool who flew to close to the sun, despite everyone‘s warnings.” He said, as the space shift began slowly melting, and he felt himself getting hotter….
“Dying out of self pity over what I have done……………………………… God, I truly am a fool, aren’t I… Sun, great star?”
And with that, he took one last look at the T.V. screen and saw their were no living people on the screen anymore- this city blazing was humanity’s last stronghold…
I wonder if we’ll be friends in hell, Icarus? For isn't the sheer stupidity we commited worthy of hell?
And with that, The Man, the last human died.
I gotta be honest- I have no idea were the idea for this came up. I just started thinking about it- did it have something to do with the Micheal Moore movie I saw yesterday? I don’t know, but I’m glad I thought of this oneshot.
