" April, did you hear me? I said do you want to go to the next room?" It sounded like a question, but as I knew from one previous bad experience, it was a demand. I got up from my chair and stepped over the glass and walked into the dimly lit hallway staring at the door down the short strip. The plaque read "Caution: extreme temperatures", the pryokinetic children had their "abilities" evaluated in that room .I dragged my feet to the door and opened it slightly. I could see Rick standing at the edge of the room. I would be grouped with him for the day, he was a six year old boy with blonde hair and brown eyes that didn't seem to belong to him. He wasn't like any other of the young ones I've met at the S. King Institute. He seemed to have massive mood swings, Robert said he was manic, but I think he was just stressed form all the expirements. He turned and started to glare at me and there was a sharp increase in temperature. I slid in the door and sat down by the wall opposite of the door and closed my eyes. I could feel Rick's glares impaling me painfully. I heard the heavy door open and slam shut but I didn't bother to open my eyes to see Robert, who had probably just finished cleaning the glass shards from the previous expirement. "Rick sit next to April" He stomped his way over to me and dropped down with a thud. I could hear him growling under his breath, words a person that young shouldn't know. "Okay, we are not going to do tests today due to a shortage of equipment," What really happened was the "therapist" that usually executed the pryokinetic expirements died in an 'accident'. I opened my eyes and gazed over at the cause of the accident, Rick, he quickly turned to me and I focused my gaze back at Robert. " However, you will be more than welcomed to try your abilities with the little equipment we do have." I hopped up from my spot on the floor and ran for the door. "April, before you leave I need to talk to you." I angrily turned to Robert as Rick slithered pass me and through the door. He sat his hand on my shoulder, "April as you know,in three years you will be eighteen and we can no longer keep you here," I knew very well, and was counting the seconds, " three years may seem like a long time April, but we have large plans for you, and those plans require much longer than three years, so you have to use all of your efforts in every single expirement you do" I turned my head away from him. "What are your plans for me, Robert?" "Well, we have an even bigger facility for people with your...." he struggled for diction "uniqueness. In the facility you will develop more than you ever thought possible. Soon representatives from the facility will be here to take one special person back with them, and I am certain it can and will be you" I turned on my heel and stalked back towards the door. I really didn't want to go to the other "facility" but what would happened if I didn't, how mad would Robert get, but what if it was my only chance at moving out and living a normal life?
