I forgot my book. That’s what I forgot, my math book! I glanced back at the house behind me, the one that already had billions of Halloween decorations up. I was too far away from my house to go back to get the book then get to school in time. No, wait, I was just telling myself that. I really needed a smoke, just thinking about inhaling and exhaling a nice cigarette relieved me of my lingering headache. That math book is so freaking heavy, too. I weighed it back in sixth grade (already two years ago… I feel old) and it weighed 4.7 pounds. Doesn’t sound too bad compared to other things, but it really weighs my messenger bag down.
Enough freaking out about some damn math book; now where’s a nice empty alley? Though there was no one else walking near me, you can never be too careful; especially while breaking the law. Police had been seen driving around my neighborhood more often than usual lately, because there had been a lot of school-involved violent “incidents” in the nearest city.
I heard a beep. I jumped a bit; the silence had been broken so suddenly. I took out my phone and slid it open. It was just my battery running out. I sighed; I was hoping someone was actually texting me for once. While sliding my phone closed, my eye caught the time: 8:49 a.m. Shit! I was supposed to be in a school that was a block away in less than one minuscule minute. My headache worsened due to the fact that I was going to have to deal with my child-eating advisory teacher Mrs. Gallo, and that I wouldn’t get to smoke before another long gruesome day at the butcher house called school.
I slipped my phone into my bag and ran for it. The thoughts that were once rushing in my head flew out of my ears and gusted away with the winds. I quickly ran out of the breath I could see fogging the air. I clinched my eyes closed to stop the deadly freezing air from making me tear. As I opened my eyes I reached the dreaded school. My steps slowed and I opened the door as the late bell rang.
