A/N: Okay; this is my first Play, so go easy. :-)

About a middle schooler w/ no friends, but she has a huge crush on the most popular guy in school, a.k.a. her biggest secret. Also, they’re actually best friends…

Setting: Local Park. Current Day. Kailah was just humiliated by Abby, the most popular girl in the school. Also the school bully.

Kailah: To Herself: Argh! Why does everyone hate me? What did I ever do wrong? Why am I the target of Abby’s taunting and humiliations? Why does everyone laugh at me instead of help me and stand up to that bully?

Austin: To Kailah: Hey; I heard what Abby said to you earlier…that was really mean. Why does she hate you, anyway?

Kailah: I have no idea, Austin; your guess is as good as mine. Oh! Here come some people! Quick! Hide!

Austin: (Dives in bushes.)

Abby: To Posse: Oh look, girls! It’s the lamo nerd! Poor kid; still out in sunshine, as if she has a reason to live!

Posse: (Laughs.) Abby! You’re so funny! But be nice. The poor girl has no friends to hide behind!

Austin: (From behind Bush, clenches fist and teeth.)

Kailah: What do you want, Abby?

Abby: Oh Kailah, silly little girl. I want nothing from you! Except my homework. I have an essay due tomorrow. I expect it B+ material. No higher, no less. Got that, (pushes imaginary glasses up on nose) Point Dexter? (Thrusts books at Kailah and leaves laughing.)

Austin: (Comes out from behind bushes as Abby and Abbynites turn block, laughing) Why don’t you stand up for yourself?

Kailah: What’s the point? I have nothing to stand for. You’re my only friend, Austin, and you can’t even be seen with me in public. The whole world is against me.

Austin: (Puts hands on Kailah’s shoulders at arm-length, looking her in the eye) Kailah. You have everything. Everyone else is just jealous. Don’t listen to Abby. If you stand up to her, she’ll get tired of teasing you. Then maybe I won’t get ridiculed for hanging out with you in public. (Smiles weakly)

Kailah: Okay. I’ll try. (Attempts a smile)

Austin: Good. Now let’s go get something to eat; I’m hungry!

Kailah: Nice plan! (Throws Abby’s books into bush Austin was just hiding in.) Let’s go!
