Prologue
"Some say the world will end in fire..." -Robert Frost-
Ever since the fall of the place called "New York City", a new city was born now known as The Fire City. There after much rebuilding and rebirth, The Fire City(a city in the country once known as United States) had become the country's capital. It had turned into the world's biggest city and also the most overpopulated and dangerous.
On every street corner there were drugs being sold legally, there were people walking in the streets since there was little to no cars in the world, and human moral and character had been turned into the opposite of what our kind was meant to be: greedy, selfish, anger-filled, power-filled, cold, miserable, and most important... savage. People in the streets would walk over or beat a poor man who begged for money. And of course the rich whom controlled the world were responsible for the sick behavior of the human race which they controlled, and as well as their ancestors, who had been the cause of the world the humans now lived in.
The rich created a republic that was crumbling...but not by their fault... The world was becoming chaotic and people were scared to go out at night. This was not because of other humans. Over the hundreds to thousands of years since the wars, magic had entered the world somehow. Alchemy was at its high point during the 2000's, but the power of alchemy and science created such a pandemonium that it lead to the creation of monsters whom helped start the wars thousands of years back. These monsters were created for military weapons only to help them win the wars, but these monsters known as Rowtag had minds of their own. They were elementals who were created by taking the life of a human being, and then using a transmutation circle, an element was connected to their restless soul, giving them a new life, but a cursed life.
The Rowtag did not know who they were in their past life after this process, but still with a mind of their own they were able to act and be human. The only problem about the Rowtag, however, was that they had no choice but to come out at night since the sun drained their energies which was their only way of surviving. There was four different kinds of Rowtag: Fire, Water, Earth and Air, but no matter what the Rowtag's power was, their elemental energy was their only hope.
The Rowtag had no inner organs, and all they had that kept them alive was their element. If they lost that elemental power by another alchemy ritual or by the sunlight draining them of their energy (another way that they lost their elemental power),they would die. The third way of a Rowtag's death which was the most frequent , was also the most frightening to their kind. Needing energy to fuel their strength so that they could live and fight, a Rowtag had to kill a human and suck out all of their small amounts of energies to go on. One human every night usually did the trick for them, but if a Rowtag were to be in the middle of a battle, energy could be gone in minutes for them if they didn't kill more than one human.
These creatures of the night eventually realized that they were stronger than any human could ever be, which led to their own uprising during the wars. Rowtags began killing their masters, the alchemists, and then went on to scientists and philosophers, until they wiped out most of the world's population and destroyed most of what the humans knew. They realized that their power was limited though, when the sun came up and they had to hide, and their only fear was that the humans would gather in the sunlight and continue to preserve their world and what they knew and luckily, the humans did.
The human race hadn't advanced in technology since the early twenty-first century due to the alchemists who believed alchemy to be the ultimate technology, but once the wars finally ended after hundreds to thousands of years, the humans began with the twenty-first century and grew from what they knew, from there. Within another hundreds of years (or so) a new era came to begin. People evolved slowly and so did their character. Most movies, music, and books had been preserved as well , giving the new age of men inspiration and hope for a better tomorrow.
The world looked like the twenty-first century, but to a human from the twenty-first century, the world would have seemed alien like a new world from another galaxy. Government improved, and the world was peaceful except for the elementals who lived at night. Cities and countries changed, but the world was new now. After the long and miserable time of war, many things were surprisingly recovered and customs and traditions remained for the humans. The only thing that was ruining the peace was the human character and the Rowtag war.
The world was improving nonetheless. Maybe if the human republic waged war one more time for the necessary cause (Getting rid of Rowtags), the world would be golden again in this new and futuristic age...But the government refused out of their coward selves. Because of the decision, the strongest of the elementals, the group of fire, was beginning to destroy the human world again, slowly. City by city. Soon the other Rowtags who used to be the fires' alliances did not enjoy the idea of the fire elementals taking over the world. Pretty soon the winds stood up for themselves and decided to destroy the fire so they could take over, and then the waters, and eventually the earth's.
Now with another unwanted war on the human shoulders, the world turned into havoc...
